The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 47
Chapter 47
On the day she first met Peregrine, he was imprisoned, awaiting execution for refusing to submit to the Alphas. Even after enduring brutal torture, his eyes still shone with an unyielding determination, a memory that remains vivid in my mind.
Arlenrose’s reason for choosing Peregrine as her attendant was a mixture of benevolence and ambition. She wanted to save him, but she also saw an opportunity to persuade him to join the revolutionary cause. She believed he would make a valuable ally.
However, once he became her attendant, she couldn’t reveal her true identity as Diabolus, let alone propose joining the liberation movement. His excessive adulation made it impossible. She had no idea what she would mean to a man on the brink of despair to be offered a hand by the only savior, the first kind and gentle Alpha in his miserable life as an Omega.
Human emotions cannot be factored into strategies. They are the most unpredictable and unquantifiable element.
It has always been this way. Her continued infatuation with Camin, Camin’s plea to become her knight, Violet’s self-proclamation as Enrique’s companion, and Enrique’s genuine affection for Violet—all were unforeseen and unfolded outside her calculations.
The truth is, another reason she chose Peregrine as her attendant was his staunchness. With such an attitude, she believed he would never harbor desire for her as an Omega.
Even Enrique, who vehemently opposed the idea, agreed on this point and reluctantly granted permission. As the princess, she couldn’t leave the Omega attendant position vacant for too long.
In fact, there was a comrade she had brought from Daimon who was supposed to fill that role, but he died in an unfortunate accident, leaving the position empty ever since. The longer it remained vacant, the more fodder it provided for gossip, leaving Enrique with no choice.
‘…And yet, it has come to this.’
As she ruminated on the past, she stifled a sigh.
Peregrine’s adoration stemmed from the fact that she, an Alpha, saved him, an Omega, without demanding his body and treating him with kindness. In other words, his devotion was predicated on the assumption thatshe was an Alpha.
If he were to learn that she rescued him out of a sense of kinship as a fellow Omega, that she, despite being an Omega herself, have been deceiving him and the entire world by enjoying the privileges of an Alpha…
Would his adoration endure?
She leaned more towards the negative. She feared that he would be consumed by a profound sense of betrayal, proportional to the intensity of his previous adulation.
Lost in contemplation, she ultimately chose silence.
She had been content with the fact that Peregrine did not harbor desire for her as an Omega and that he diligently fulfilled his role as her attendant…
But over time, his adoration had morphed into affection and then into desire.
Reminding herself once again that human emotions are the most complex, she looked at him with the most composed expression she could muster.
“I’m sorry, but that will never happen, Peregrine.”
“Your Highness…”
Peregrine’s eyes flickered for a moment before he bowed his head, his jaw clenched.
“I apologize. I have overstepped my bounds.”
“No, I don’t think so. However, I’m saying this clearly so that you don’t suffer with futile expectations. I will not accept the service of any Omega, now or in the future.”
“Yes, Your Highness. I am well aware of your convictions. I was merely blinded by my own selfish desires for a moment, and I regret that I spoke words that contradict your noble beliefs.”
Peregrine lifted his gaze slightly, his eyes sparkling.
The fact that she doesn’t accept the service of Omegas is something he often refers to as her conviction. Whenever he says that, his eyes always sparkle like that. It’s a compliment to an Alpha of the highest rank who refuses to exploit Omegas.
With another stifled sigh, she cautiously spoke.
“If you are struggling with the pheromone issue right now, or if you can no longer handle the side effects of the pheromone suppressants, I will find a way to…”
“No, that’s not it, Your Highness.”
