The Male Lead’s Sickly Aide is My Type - Chapter 96.1
Chapter 96.1
Archen pulled Carinne into a private room and drew the curtains. The thin fabric offered little privacy, a fact Carinne would have pointed out had he not swiftly removed his mask and hers. Before she could protest, he pressed her against the wall, his lips meeting hers.
A thrill shot through her as the soft touch ignited a spark, warmth flowing between them.
His fingers traced the nape of her neck, sending shivers down her spine. The kiss deepened, lingering. While Archen lost himself in the moment, Carinne couldn’t.
Silhouettes of partygoers flitted past the curtains, and the fear of interruption kept her on edge.
‘Just this once.’
She reasoned.
‘We can continue this back home.’
However, Archen showed no sign of stopping. Breaking the kiss only long enough to catch his breath, he rained kisses across her face and down her neck.
“Archen… wait… someone’s coming!”
A shadow fell across the curtains. As they parted, Archen pulled her close, her face buried against his chest. The newcomer didn’t see her, but neither did she.
‘What if it’s someone I know?’
Pushing Archen away would reveal her, but the uncertainty gnawed at her. She could probably recognize the person by their build or hair, even with the mask. But the risk was too great.
She didn’t want to be discovered, no matter who it was.
Burrowing deeper into his embrace, she felt Archen pull her closer as if reading her mind. Silence hung heavy in the air. Carinne sensed an exchange of glances between Archen and the stranger.
“Who is it?”
She whispered, her voice barely audible.
Archen remained silent, as did the figure at the curtain. A moment later, the curtains quietly closed.
“Do you know them?”
“No.”
‘Thank goodness.’
Carinne breathed a sigh of relief. Being caught in a compromising position, even in a private room, felt as shameful as being caught stealing.
At least, to her, it did.
“Let’s stop here and continue this at home.”
Archen’s lips found hers again, and Carinne quickly covered her mouth with her hand. He looked at her, his eyes hazy, then took a step back.
“Stop now?”
He paused, then stepped closer, his gaze locking with hers. A slender finger traced her cheek.
“Isn’t that a bit cruel?”
She swallowed hard, mesmerized by the proximity of his now-dilated eyes. Long lashes cast shadows over his flushed cheeks, his half-parted lips releasing warm breaths.
He seemed driven by pure instinct, radiating an almost overwhelming allure.
‘One drink and he’s this different?’
A strange unease settled over her as she pushed him away.
“No, we’ll continue this at home.”
Archen frowned, displeased, but didn’t force the issue. Instead, he leaned in, his voice a low murmur.
“Then, indulge me one last time. Just a brief kiss, and then we’ll stop.”
The soft plea, combined with his gentle gaze, was impossible to resist.
‘Just a brief kiss.’
She reassured herself, nodding slightly. Archen cupped her cheek and kissed her, his other hand gripping the curtain’s edge.
Relieved, Carinne closed her eyes. Mid-kiss, he paused.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
He shrugged dismissively and resumed the kiss, though it ended as abruptly as the last. Sensing something amiss, Carinne pulled away.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, I just need to use the restroom. Wait here.”
Before she could respond, he slipped past the curtains and out of the room.
‘He could have said something sooner.’
The bright chandelier light spilled through the gap in the curtains.
Shielding her eyes, Carinne moved to close them, her gaze falling upon a gathering of people, their attention focused on a single point.
‘What’s going on?’
Curious, she stepped out of the room. The lights dimmed, and a spotlight illuminated a stage draped in red velvet.
