The Eldest Daughter Walks Down The Flower Path - Chapter 192
Chapter 192

The hill wasn’t particularly high, but there was an unobstructed view all the way to the horizon, where the vast expanse of Monsterwood covered the landscape far away, along with the meadow’s scenery.
Olivier, wearing a surprised expression, gazed at the horizon where the black forest appeared.
“Is that Monsterwood?”
Radis jumped off her horse and approached Olivier, who was riding his white horse.
“Yes, it’s as dark as ever, even in the morning.”
“It’s as dark as the sea. But it doesn’t feel as intimidating as I imagined.”
Radis took the reins of the white horse to help Olivier dismount.
Seeing her take the reins, Olivier quickly dismounted from his horse.
“It feels like our roles have reversed.”
“Not at all. Today, I am your knight, aren’t I?”
Upon hearing her words, Olivier stared at her as if he had just received a tremendously sweet proposal.
“…That sounds nice.”
Radis confidently tapped the hilt of her sword on her waist.
“Just trust me.”
It wasn’t an empty promise. If, by some rare chance, an assassin would target Olivier today, she intended to show him the extent of her tracking skills.
As Olivier looked at her, he raised his hand and gently touched her cheek.
“……!”
Radis’s eyes widened.
Olivier took something off her cheek with his hand.
“There was some pollen on you.”
His fingertip gently brushed against her cheek.
“It must be spring.”
Her cheek was so soft under his touch that Radis almost closed her eyes.
‘Huk!’
Radis momentarily snapped out of her daze.
‘N-No, don’t be like this.’
As Radis’s lips briefly trembled and then sealed shut like a clam again, Olivier’s smile deepened.
Olivier murmured under his breath,
“…You keep tormenting me.”
His voice was as soft as the sound of the wind, barely audible to Radis.
“What did you say just now, Your Highness?”
Olivier smiled gently and shook his head.
“It’s nothing.”
He turned his gaze toward the horizon and continued,
“The forest ahead is undoubtedly a very dangerous place. But seen from here, it’s quite mysterious and beautiful.”
“Y-Yes, isn’t that so?”
Worried that there might be more pollen on her face, Radis lightly tapped her cheek with her hand.
“Is this a place that you like?”
“Ah… Well, not so much that I’m particularly fond of it, but I’ve thought the scenery is nice when passing by occasionally.”
It was the path she used to secretly escape to Monsterwood, actually.
Feeling somewhat uneasy about her own dishonesty, Radis awkwardly asked,
“Why… did you ask me that?”
Olivier replied casually.
“You mentioned once that you liked looking at the forest from afar.”
“Me? Oh…”
Come to think of it, she might have said something like that before.
Radis placed one hand on the hilt of her sword and fell into a daze.
“Y-Your Highness remembered that…?”
Olivier, who had been gazing at the forest covered in darkness on the horizon, turned his head slightly toward her and gave her a faint, upturned smile.
“Of course,” Radis replied.
She wanted to say something more but bit her lip and averted her gaze.
Her words had slipped out unbeknownst to her, and she spoke as though she was professing an unguarded confession.
The fact that he remembered such an insignificant detail from their conversation and then asked if this place was one she liked made her feel grateful and oddly affectionate towards him.
She lightly caressed the hilt of her sword, her heart filled with a warm and indescribable emotion.
Unconsciously, she murmured.
“…I hope you stay in the South for a long time.”
Immediately after uttering those words, Radis was so startled that it felt as if the sky had turned upside down.
It was surprising alone that she had thought such a thing, and the words had just flowed out of her mouth without passing through her mind.
Upon hearing her words, Olivier chuckled lightly, like a gentle spring breeze.
“I wish for that, too. But soon, I have the duty of welcoming the River God, Asel.”
Radis didn’t catch exactly what he said.
She was not in her right mind due to the silly whining that had just spilled from her lips.
A shiver ran down her spine.
It felt as if the tiny hairs on her nape were all standing on end.
Radis hurriedly spoke in her best formal tone.
“Y-Yes, work is a priority. A-And besides, Your Highness lives in the Imperial Palace, so you can’t stay in the South for long.”
“Indeed. I cannot neglect my duties as a prince,” Olivier replied.
“R-right. You’re a prince, after all.”
Radis had lost track of what her own mouth was saying.
“S-So, I mean… While Your Highness is in the South, I will protect you without fail.”
Olivier responded to her words with a sweet smile.
Radis could not regain her composure.
