Thank You For The Confinement, Grand Duke! - Chapter 71.2
I do love books.
Watching dramas can sometimes feel too vivid and unsettling since they involve moving images. Because of that, I tend to avoid them, except for family dramas. Besides, it’s incredibly frustrating to wait a week for a new episode when I’m dying to know the ending.
Books, on the other hand, allow for quiet, solitary reading, and there’s joy in imagining the scenarios. Even if the situations or themes are similar, the way different authors portray them is fascinating. I often feel as if I’m part of the story, experiencing the characters’ emotions and becoming emotionally involved with them.
I really enjoyed that.
“It’s fun, isn’t it?”
“I’ve recently come to like books as well.”
“Really?”
I didn’t think I’d seen him reading much. Was he reading along with me while holding me from behind?
“When you read, you don’t seem to notice, but your mouth moves like a chick’s beak.”
…A chick’s beak? How did it even move like that?
“When your expression is serious but your lips are moving like that… it’s so cute that I can’t help but want to kiss you.”
“Ah, well, you could do that…”
“Huh?”
“Huh?”
“Uh…”
Enfrise gazed at me with a slightly flustered expression.
Should I make him even more flustered if I wanted him to look at me? It was cute, but if the silence went on too long, it would feel awkward.
“I’m looking forward to the play since I’ve never seen one. I don’t like crowds, though.”
“In that case… I’ll rent the whole venue on that day.”
“Huh?”
“Huh?”
“Uh…”
‘…Is this déjà vu?’
No, more importantly, are we really booking the entire venue for the day? What scale are we talking about? Of course, Enfrise is wealthy, but still!
…But when I think about it, it’s a bit enticing. The actors would be performing solely for me and Enfrise, right?
It would feel like I was the main character on stage.
“Is there anywhere else you want to visit?”
“Hmm… a place where many foreign merchants come?”
“Foreign merchants?”
Who knows? There might be something related to Korean food there.
I could say that the food Tambor makes is delicious. She prepares it with good balance, so it doesn’t get tiresome.
However…
Deep down, I’m Korean… Well, this body has been adapted to the local cuisine, but my soul longs for something spicy. Even though I’m sensitive to spice, the food here is so mild that it makes me realize how commonplace spicy food was in my life.
At first, I enjoyed having someone cook for me, but now I’m starting to crave certain flavors… I suddenly thought of my little brother and kept the thought to myself.
I don’t care about much, but I really wish I had gochujang, doenjang, and soy sauce. With those, I could make tteokbokki or anything else.
“I read in a book that there are many delicious-looking dishes.”
“Ah, then let’s go with Tambor. If you find something you like, she’ll figure out the recipe and make it for you whenever you want.”
Kuuuhh.
I naturally thought I should be the one to cook if I had the ingredients, but my Enfrise didn’t let me do anything myself. Oh my, oh my.
Well, considering I’m the noble lady Chaperil, it’s understandable.
“Oh. Should we have lunch soon?”
“I saw you preparing something since this morning…”
I smiled a little at Enfrise’s hint and attempted to lift the picnic basket…
Oh…
Ugh, it’s heavy!
“I’ll take care of it.”
“Thank you…”
I’ve gained some stamina, but do I need to start strength training now? I’ve seen squats and planks on TV, but I doubt those exercise methods exist in this world. I should secretly do them in my room.
“This is….”
Inside the basket were various fruits, a refreshing salad made by Tember, and the meat pie I had prepared.
‘…Please, let it taste good.’
“A meat pie?”
“Um… I heard that it’s a tradition to eat meat pie on birthdays…”
“….”
Instead of answering, Enfrise stared silently into the basket. He took out the plate with the pie from the cool basket and continued to look at it blankly.
What was going on? It wasn’t like he had never seen one before.
“This is….”
“Um… I made it.”
“You?”
“Yes. This is one of the secrets I mentioned a while ago.”
Well, technically, it’s one of several secrets. I didn’t say how many secrets there were, nor did I claim to have revealed them all.
I smiled shamelessly and continued speaking.
“Actually, I heard from Tambor that Enfrise’s birthday was coming up. I wanted to give you a gift, but I don’t earn any money, so if I bought something, it would all be with Enfirse’s money.”
Well, Enfrise would probably be happy just to know I picked it out, though I still wanted to do something meaningful. Ideally, I’d love to make him a beef seaweed soup, but…
It seemed that wasn’t available here.
“I’m not sure if it turned out well since it’s my first time making it.”
“….”
Enfrise went silent again.
‘Why is he acting like this?’
Just as I was thinking that—
“Enfrise…?”
—Clear tears fell from his eyes.
