“Pfft… Haha!”
Ciel burst into laughter at his brother’s words, finding the naïve yet sharp comments endearing. He affectionately ruffled Aiden’s hair.
“Ah! I did my hair because I’m meeting Rose.”
“Aiden.”
Aiden looked up at Ciel’s call, his round blue eyes filled with affection.
“Even if I get married, I’ll still be your brother. I’ll always come running if you need help. Remember that.”
“…Me too. I’ll do the same, Brother. I won’t just stand behind you anymore.”
“Right. You’re the head of the Leopardt family now.”
The carriage carrying the harmonious brothers arrived near the Closch domain through a portal. Spectators couldn’t take their eyes off the procession of over ten carriages exiting the portal, a sight they seldom saw. The carriages quickly made their way to the fief lord’s residence.
Aiden was the first to get off in the city center.
“Brother, I’ll get off here. I can take one of the following carriages.”
“Alright. But make sure you always have a knight with you. It’s better to be cautious for a while.”
“Got it.”
After Aiden disembarked, Ciel sped off to his destination. Seeing the familiar sight of the Closch estate, Ciel couldn’t help but smile, eager to see Irene again. When the carriage stopped in front of the mansion, he stepped out, heart fluttering with anticipation.
Ciel spotted Irene descending the stairs.
“Ciel!”
He ran to her and embraced her tightly.
“I missed you, Rin.”
“Me too.”
Irene wrapped her arms around his waist and onto his back.
“Why did you come without sending a letter first?”
“I wanted to surprise you.”
“Fufu, you really did. I was so shocked when the carriage suddenly arrived.”
Irene had been startled by the arrival of the Leopardt family’s carriage while she was reading on the terrace and had rushed down, not expecting them without prior notice.
“Where are my future in-laws? Did they go out?”
At his question, Irene recalled the lunchtime events. She stepped back from him with a mischievous expression.
“Ciel, there’s something I want to ask.”
The forthcoming question seemed to be not so pleasant, judging by her hesitation. Ciel braced himself as Irene continued.
“Listen. What if we… push back our wedding?”
“…Why? Have… Have your feelings changed?”
Ciel was visibly distressed by her sudden suggestion, imagining all sorts of reasons for the change.
“Ah, well, you see…”
Seeing his complexion change, Irene hurriedly tried to explain but was cut off.
“I-I was wrong, everything’s my fault… I’ll make sure to do better from now on.”
Kneeling before her in confusion, Ciel pleaded.
“…But keep your promise, please. Even if it’s many years into the future, marry me. Please…”
Irene, taken aback by his pale and pleading look, quickly took his hands to raise him up.
“You silly goose! That’s not it! Brother wants to get married first!”
Ciel, whose mind had gone blank, was able to understand her words after a moment’s delay.
“…Brother-in-law? He’s getting married?”
“Yes, Brother wants to send an engagement gift. That’s why Mom and Dad aren’t here.”
Ciel, having heard the full explanation, tried to hide his flushed face with his hand. However, Irene had already seen his reaction and the corners of her mouth twitched.
“Ciel.”
“…What is it.”
“Look at me.”
“I am looking.”
“Pfft!”
Irene couldn’t hold back her laughter any longer and burst out laughing loudly. She was so caught up in her laughter that she didn’t notice when Ciel took his hand away from his face.
“Then, are they both not at the estate?”
“Ah, haha… Yes.”
Irene, still amused, wiped away her mirthful tears. Ciel was quicker, though. He checked the hallway was empty before swiftly licking the tears from her eyes. After tasting her salty tears, he picked her up.
“I guess they would have offered the guest room since their future son-in-law has arrived?”
“…What?”
He whispered to Irene with a suggestive voice and breath, causing her to react with surprise.
“Honey, guide me, please.”
With eyes curved in mischief, Ciel carried Irene up the stairs. Hanging onto him, she realized the situation was taking an unusual turn, but frankly, she wasn’t entirely opposed to the idea.
