Obviously, It's My Child - Chapter 123
If the Weaving Guild hadn’t wielded influence in a positive sense, this warm reception might not have happened.
Also, if Claire hadn’t used public opinion in the past few months to turn this marriage into a romance of the century, it would have been just a high noble wedding.
But now, everyone is cheering.
Accepting that it’s reasonable and feeling happy for Claire for that fact, there was still an empty corner in Grey’s heart.
A splendid carriage adorned with flowers stood in front of the chapel gate. Erich disembarked first.
A delighted sigh filled the garden at the sight of the groom who was elegantly dressed. He seemed to have been carved out of perfectly sculpted marble adorned with dark blue silk and gold.
He casually turned around, unaware of the praise showered upon him, and reached out toward the interior.
Claire couldn’t descend immediately and hesitated. The long train of her dress restricted her movement.
“Claire.”
“Give me a hand, please.”
Before the maids could arrange her dress, Erich grabbed her waist and lifted her gently, placing her back on the ground.
“Ack.”
Her shoe was halfway off within the long folds of her dress. Claire, feeling awkward, held onto his arm and dangled.
“Why?”
“Just wait a moment. The shoe feels stiff because it’s new…”
Claire, holding his hand, fumbled with her shoe and put it back on.
People didn’t exactly know why they stopped there, but the simple and affectionate act of adjusting a shoe and walking slowly with his guidance received more applause than an embrace or a kiss.
“It’s done.”
Claire awkwardly smiled and, holding Erich’s hand, walked slowly as he led the way.
The diamond necklace and earrings, widely boasted in the newspapers, accentuated her beautiful face. Her twisted red hair was adorned with white roses.
Her wedding dress was extravagantly puffed up like a foam in a radiant white. Small jewels adorned the train starting from the lower back, and gradually, a hint of blue made it shimmer, sparkling in a light blue like waves breaking in the clear sea.
Without anyone prompting, people began applauding.
“Congratulations!”
Cheers of welcome and joy filled the garden.
Grey stared blankly until her figure disappeared into the chapel.
“We should go in too.”
Schultz spoke and grabbed his arm, and that’s when he realized he had momentarily lost focus. However, he didn’t show it outwardly.
His face replied with a usual ‘yes’. Yet, he couldn’t help but think about the sapphire ring tucked away in his desk drawer and the realization that he might never get rid of it.
* * *
The ceiling of the splendid chapel was so high, making it difficult to see the intricately carved angel statues on the arches.
The exquisitely designed skylights and sunlight filtering through the stained glass filled the chapel with a sacred light.
The scent of flowers and soft music enveloped the floor. Early guests engaged in light conversations with those seated nearby.
“I didn’t expect Aunt Victoria to come.”
Lady Bettina spoke with a giggly smile. Archduke Victoria, was the Emperor’s eldest sister, quietly residing on her own estate in the northern territories at the age of seventy.
“How could I not come when Erich is getting married?”
“Erich was quite late. I was a bit surprised when I heard his marriage partner is a noble from Arren, but Erich has a principled side, so he wouldn’t necessarily avoid an Arren if he understands the true meaning behind Rommel-Arren succession law, as established by Emperor Friedrich.”
Archduke Manfred and his wife also offered a few words. Archduke Manfred was the Emperor’s younger brother.
The Empress had no plans to attend. If the Emperor had been able to attend, they might have considered attending together.
However, the Emperor had been incapacitated for a long time, and although not publicly announced, his illness was severe. Archduke Manfred, who occasionally met him, thought that it was more than just a mental ailment, but a deep physical illness as well.
Prince Linus had also rarely left the Imperial Palace. Thus, among the nobles attending as guests, these four were the only members of the imperial family.
Bettina spoke cheerfully.
“I heard that Grand Prince Arren will also come. Will Duke Moore also be attending?”
“You like Duke Moore.”
“She’s cool. Oh, of course, the person I think is the coolest is Aunt Victoria.”
“So, you’re determined not to marry.”
“I won’t like any man unless he’s more impressive than me. But Erich is undoubtedly more impressive than me, isn’t he? If Duke Moore had a son, it might be a different story.”
While speaking fairly about Erich’s marriage, Archduke Manfred, who did not want to marry his daughter to a noble from Aren, had a subtle expression. The talk about Duke Moore, who had no children, was meaningless.
Nevertheless, it was a splendid wedding. The chapel was filled with guests, creating a sacred and blessed atmosphere.
Despite various malicious rumors surrounding Louisa and Iris, it was a sight that deeply made people acknowledge the excellent and perfect wedding.
Of course, there were those who found fault.
“Look at them, those commoners.”
“To think that an accountant and a fabric store owner are sitting at a wedding of a family like Klausener, it’s absurd.”
Including Countess Pfaffenheim, the women who followed Louisa continued to resist, waving their fans and gossiping.
However, anyone passing by made them hush and close their mouths.
It was hard not to notice what the once part of their group, Viscountess Spee, was doing.
“Please restrain yourselves. It’s not the place for this, especially in the chapel. Originally, it’s a space meant for everyone.”
“I guess you’re not afraid that God might be displeased.”
