My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 67
Regina composed herself and looked at the hand Darien extended toward her. His fingers were long and well-maintained, and he was holding a ring.
“This…..”
Is not just any ring. Sensing the magic within it, she reflexively looked at Darien. He smiled warmly and gently grasped her fingertips.
“You trust me, right? Then you wouldn’t mind wearing this all the time?”
She knew the ring could be enchanted. She wasn’t a wizard, so while she could detect the presence of magic, she was clueless about its specific arrangements. If the ring contained magic that could harm the wearer in critical moments, it could be deadly.
Logically, she should refuse it. However, with a deep sigh, she nodded.
After receiving her permission, Darien prepared to slide the ring onto her finger. He knelt on one knee and slowly pushed the ring onto her left ring finger. It fit perfectly as if it had been sized just for her.
He looked at the ring he had just placed on her finger for a moment, then lifted her hand and kissed the back of it. Regina watched his actions indifferently. Such gestures were customary and meant little.
It was likely that in her previous life, there wasn’t a noble who hadn’t kissed Yekarna’s hand like this. She changed the subject nonchalantly.
“Why have you been speaking respectfully with me all this time?”
“Ah, I forgot for a moment that you’re my junior.”
“…Is that something to forget?”
“I often confuse my past and present lives.”
He said something nonsense without even a blink and straightened his knee and stood up.
‘It didn’t seem there was such a difference in our statures in my past life.’
Yekarna had been tall. So much so she rarely encountered a woman taller than her. But this body was… different. Regina frowned as Darien looked down at her and chuckled, pinpointing the exact thing that displeased her.
“You look cute being so petite.”
“I am not petite.”
Regina retorted angrily. To be precise, her height was among the tallest among the female students in her class. Compared to Yekarna, who was notably tall, she was only slightly shorter, and definitely not ‘petite’.
“Everything is relative. To me, you are petite.”
‘Great, you must feel tall compared to your past life.’
She couldn’t help but think it was terribly unfair. Some people shrink, others grow even taller. On top of that, he doesn’t lose any of his attractiveness, making him devastatingly handsome.
Frustration surged within her, and after giving Darien a sharp look, Regina stepped back. Being close only made the contrast more glaringly obvious.
“If you have nothing more to say, I’ll be leaving now.”
Darien did not stop her.
Back in her room, Regina collapsed into a chair, feeling utterly drained despite doing nothing physically strenuous. Handling such situations seemed more exhausting than physical labor.
She rubbed her face with her palms and then closely examined the ring.
What kind of magic could be in it? She could only guess.
“Hng.”
With a groan, she looked away from the ring. Staring at it wouldn’t reveal its secrets, so she decided to let it go.
After a tumultuous day, Regina went to bed but fidgeted with the unfamiliar ring on her finger. It felt cumbersome, and it would take time to get used to it, thankfully it wasn’t on her sword hand.
Then she felt a presence. It was coming from the direction of the door. Regina quietly picked up a wooden sword.
It was bedtime. It was far too late for a normal visitor. As the ancient sages said, no good person comes on their own feet, and no one who comes at their own feet is a good person.
After being attacked in the arena that day, Regina naturally thought of an assassin and prepared herself fully.
‘If they’ve come to kill, they’d better be prepared to risk their own life.’
As a former swordmaster and now a half one at best, she approached the door with the intent to use full force against any intruder. She skillfully unlocked the door and lunged at the shadowy figure with her wooden sword. A suppressing momentum was important and she intended to overpower them with her first strike.
But as she barely made out the intruder’s features in the darkness, she abruptly stopped her hand.
As Regina suddenly stopped her motion, her muscles screamed in protest. The force she had been about to exert rebounded, feeling as though it would tear her body apart.
Clenching her teeth and swallowing her groan, she focused intently on the figure before her.
The face revealed by the moonlight streaming through the window was familiar. If she wasn’t mistaken, this man was…
“Senior Valen?”
“That’s quite a vigorous welcome.”
Hearing his voice, Regina completely relaxed her grip on the wooden sword. It was unmistakably Friedrich’s reincarnation.
“What are you doing here, in the women’s dormitory, why….? How did you unlock the door?”
Her words tumbled out in a jumble mess out of confusion.
“Let’s talk inside. It would be troublesome for both of us if someone saw us.”
He smoothly escorted her in and shut the door with the ease of someone entering their own space. As if a spouse’s bedroom was his own, which it technically was in a past life, but Regina reminded herself they were not married in this life.
“Why are you entering at this hour without permission?”
“You’ve been in my bedroom too, remember? At an even more ungodly hour.”
“That was because Senior dragged me in.”
“I helped you to not get caught. Now it’s your turn to help me.”
His voice lowered seductively as he whispered. Her furs stood on end out of nervousness. It reminded her of memories of the things Friedrich had done in the bedroom while whispering like that.
Regina shut her eyes tight then opened them again. She needed to get him out quickly.
“Alright, what do you need? Sneaking into the women’s dorm at this hour must mean you desperately want to keep this from others.”
