My Dear Grand Duke on a Leash - Chapter 58
Chapter 29.2 — Best Bridesmaid (12)
After she gathered her thoughts, Riette rose from the bathtub, and the glistening water flowed down her voluptuous curves.
“Ian. Don’t go out anywhere today and stay quietly in the cage today, okay? I’ll bring your brother and let you meet you again. Promise!”
“Pprik!”
Riette, wearing her robe, placed the lark, who would soon become her husband’s younger sibling, in the cage and closed the dented door before she securely tied it with a silk ribbon to ensure there was no chance for him to escape. Then, she resolutely headed to the dressing table.
But Ian… when did he turn into a bird?
At the very least, she might need to wait until after the main ceremony of her sister’s wedding to ask him. No, it would take longer for the two of them to be alone because there would be many eyes on them at the reception.
She would have to wait until then to satisfy her curiosity…
With a vague and stifling frustration, Riette surrendered herself to the hands of the chambermaids applying rose oil to her hair.

It had been exactly four days since the opera house terrorist attack.
Riette, standing in front of her sister’s bedroom door, realized that she hadn’t thought about her sister for such a long time.
“Princess Lariette has arrived.”
The door opened at the same time as the servant’s announcement.
As she stepped into the bedroom, her mouth fell open. The gracefully curled pale platinum hair, the long and slender neck like a deer… Her eyes were completely captivated by the veil pouring down like a transparent waterfall and the dress that was as white as the first snow.
Despite that, it was no secret that her sister was beautiful. She looked even more beautiful than ever, and it wasn’t just about her appearance. The pleasant tension and excited smiles of a woman on the verge of a new life sparkled around her like scattered dust. It was the radiance of someone looking forward to the happiness that was bound to come.
Beatrice smiled gracefully at Riette.
“Riette, my best bridesmaid. Welcome. I’ve missed you.”
As the bride’s sister, she was the best maid of honor today.
Standing beside her sister, everything that she and the Grand Duke had gone through in the past few days felt like a distant dream. She was so proud to be able to be her beautiful sister’s bridesmaid.
As she looked at her sister, radiating a dazzling smile that seemed to have no trace of illness, Riette felt tears welling up in her eyes.
Her life had value simply by being her sister’s sibling. She had thought that way her whole life, even if she had briefly forgotten it for these past few days.
“Sister, you look so beautiful…”
Ceres, who was standing there more nervous than the person concerned herself, cast a glance at Riette.
“Why are you shedding tears already? The makeup these maids have put so much effort into will be ruined.”
“Why is mother scolding me when you’re crying too, heup…”
When Ceres reached out, a maid naturally handed her two silk handkerchiefs.
With a cold expression on her face, Ceres handed one to Riette, and she used the other to gently wipe away the tears that had collected in the corners of her eyes. Holding back her tears as best she could, she then gave her sister a tight embrace. Her sister’s warmth, with her arms around her back, felt tickling.
“Sister, you have to be happy. If you cry, I won’t leave Sir Saint-Cyr. You know that, right?”
“Of course. He knows it, too. You won’t know just how happy I am to have you as my sister, Riette.”
The maids discreetly wiped away their own tears as they watched the touching sight of royal ladies shedding tears for the lovely Princess.
Ceres’s chief maid bowed respectfully.
“Your Majesty. It’s time to move now.”
As Ceres handed the handkerchief to the maids with her characteristically delicate gesture after hearing those words, Beatrice gingerly rose, accepting the assistance of the maids. Riette swiftly followed suit, lifting the train of her sister’s wedding dress.
While they descended the grand staircase of the central palace, a large ribbon-adorned limousine, transformed into a wedding car, was already waiting. Riette climbed in first and helped Beatrice get in. Ten minutes as the limousine departed from the central garden path was the only time the two of them had to converse.
She held her sister’s hand tightly and gazed at her.
“Sister. Are you happy?”
“Yes. To the point where I’ve come to be grateful even for my ailing body, which I used to despise. If I hadn’t been this fragile, I wouldn’t have met him.”
Riette knew what a great happiness it was for her sister. She was the only one who knew about the nights when her sister would curse herself, resentful of the fact that she had been born.
“Riette. You’re going to have a happier marriage than me. It will be just like in a fairy tale, a marriage that takes place after enchanted love.”
“Mm, I wonder…”
Bea’s eyes softened in response to her younger sister’s uncertain reaction. She then used her gloved hand to gently brush aside her sister’s baby hair.
“Of course. The women of the Chalonné are destined to have happy love. Certainly.”
Unable to come up with any response to her sister’s confidence, which seemed to foretell the future like a blessing, Riette remained silent.
