My Contract Husband is Going Crazy Because of My Iron Wall - Chapter 57.1
Chapter 57.1
I originally intended only a separation, not a divorce, but I’ve changed my mind. Distance from Reinhardt might eventually diminish my feelings for him. However, that wasn’t what the Emperor wanted. He desired legal ownership, not my heart.
Reinhardt, possessing what the Emperor couldn’t, was a significant obstacle.
He would undoubtedly continue his attempts to eliminate Reinhardt. I refused to endanger anyone, especially someone I cared for, just to save myself.
“What are you talking about?”
“I want a divorce.”
Reinhardt’s face crumpled. His blue eyes flashed with cold fury.
“No.”
It was all he said.
“Even if we dissolve the contract, I’ll still let you paint me as much as you like. I’ll be fleeing the country, so it might be difficult to see each other often, but…”
“No.”
“I’ll even tell you how to defend yourself against Larboris. Your magic will be strong enough to break through the barrier when you reach adulthood. If you plant lemon trees, he won’t go near them. He hates the scent of the divine.”
Despite being privy to valuable information unknown to anyone else, Reinhardt spoke as if it were entirely irrelevant.
“Why should I need to defend myself against him when he’s so obedient to you?”
“If I’m gone, he’ll see you as an enemy.”
“That won’t happen. I won’t let you go.”
Why was he refusing a divorce when I was offering him all the benefits without the contractual obligation? I stared at Reinhardt, bewildered.
He swallowed hard, his voice a low growl.
“You won’t understand why I’m doing this. I don’t want to tell you, so don’t try to find out. Just stay by my side.”
“I really don’t understand. Do I possess some unknown advantage?”
“You could say that.”
“Enough to warrant risking your life?”
Reinhardt appeared lost in thought for a moment, his eyelashes lowered. He then met my gaze.
“Yes. I won’t die, but even if I did, you’re worth that much to me.”
What could it possibly be that he refused to tell me? No matter how much I pondered, I couldn’t fathom it.
“I don’t want you to remain in danger.”
“I don’t want you in danger either. I’ll continue to protect you, so why are you trying to flee the country?”
Reinhardt showed no sign of yielding.
‘What do I do? I can’t proceed with the divorce without his consent…’
“My answer will remain the same no matter how many times you ask.”
“Reinhardt, but…”
“I don’t want to hear anymore. I’ll be going now.”
With those cold words, Reinhardt slammed the door and left.
‘I couldn’t even tell him I initially only wanted a separation.’
I slumped my shoulders and sighed. Why was he so angry? Was it so offensive to suggest dissolving a contract between us? And he wouldn’t even tell me why…
I couldn’t understand him at all.

A few days later, the Imperial Knights arrived for Roxanne. Silent until then, she whispered to them as soon as they appeared.
“Find someone to kidnap Irovel Erestein. No one must know of this.”
Once again, a crimson aura emanated from Roxanne, enveloping the Imperial Knights as they nodded.
As she departed for the capital, one knight slipped away from the procession and contacted an intermediary known for arranging unsavory tasks. To ensure the client’s anonymity, the request passed through multiple contacts before finally reaching its intended recipient.
“This… this kind of payment is a first! My client must be someone incredibly powerful.”
The target was Mario’s gang, the lowest of the low in the assassins’ guild. Mario’s task was simple: infiltrate the Erestein ducal residence disguised as a food supplier, then, with the help of a planted insider, abduct the Duchess.
“Just carry her out.”
