Marriage with a Suspiciously Demure Husband - Chapter 86.1
Chapter 86.1
In the briefest of moments, he caught me as I was about to fall to the ground. As I walked toward the carriage with him, I stole a glance back. It seemed they were still talking about me, their eyes peeking at me from time to time, but they weren’t as persistent as before.
While I had inadvertently learned about Hazel’s past, I thought it was for the best. At least, I found out what was the biggest part of the terrible nightmare. It was just bad luck, not my fault.
I reassured myself as if to comfort the original Hazel.

“Who is this?”
A sudden chill ran down my spine. I slowly turned my head in the direction of the voice.
“Haha, Dylan.”
I gave him a business smile as best I could. In the end, I couldn’t meet him yesterday, so I made an appointment with Dylan today, even though it was the office where he worked.
I arrived a little earlier than the appointment time, talked to the driver, and was hanging around in front of the office when Dylan showed up. Josh and Lux were here, too. I clearly made an appointment with Dylan alone.
“Isn’t this the Duchess of Hadid?”
“Such a distinguished person in this shabby place…?”
Dylan, Josh, and Lux all chimed in, picking on me. I guess it was better than them avoiding me, but still!
“Ugh.”
“Ugh? Are those words coming out of the Duchess’s mouth…?”
Dylan’s eyes widened as if he was about to devour me.
“…No.”
I lowered my eyes, feeling guilty at Dylan’s words. It’s all my fault for not speaking up.
“Let’s go in.”
As I spoke politely and entered, Josh brought a chair instead of a sofa. He dragged it to the front of the sofa and winked at me.
“Why…?”
“A chair of reflection.”
I glared at Josh.
“Hey, you might end up in the gutter without anyone knowing… No, the Duchess will keep it a secret, right?”
Lux, who I thought would stop him, joined in the chaos.
I, the sinner, sat on the chair that Josh offered. As I took a short break, Josh spoke in an exaggerated manner.
“That’s right. Tea time…”
“Oh, are you done?”
In the end, I shouted, and Josh’s eyebrows twitched rhythmically. Oh, really.
Sitting on this chair, I really felt like I was being judged. Is this really a chair of reflection? On the one hand, I wondered if I had done something so wrong? However, when I saw them looking at me as if to say, “Please explain, Duchess,” I had nothing to say.
“Well… To be honest, I did intend to hide it…”
“You’re honest, Duchess.”
Josh opened his mouth again in an exaggerated gesture.
“However, in my defense, I had some circumstances. I’m sorry I couldn’t be honest then.”
The three of them looked at me with interest all at once, and they started asking questions as if they were opening a floodgate. I felt like I was the teacher giving a lesson. Maybe it was because I was sitting alone on a high chair, or maybe it was because they were asking me questions like a student asking a teacher, like how we met, whether we had a relationship, and so on.
It wasn’t all questions.
They said things like, “How could you do that?”, “Couldn’t you have given us a heads-up?” and “Were you avoiding us when we asked?” Josh even asked if we were childhood sweethearts, and Lux even said that he never dreamed of checking the newspaper.
I was a little surprised when he said that I might have a weakness.
“Well then, I’ve listened well. It was an informative time, Duchess.”
“Haah…”
After spending time dodging questions as best I could, I felt my energy drain away. It wasn’t even an interrogation, but an hour had passed. If only I hadn’t flipped out about creating a guild back then, I wouldn’t be going through this.
If only I hadn’t stolen the five million gold… I couldn’t even tell anyone.
“I’m convinced now, but it’s really amazing. I mean, I heard you got married, but I was suspicious because you wouldn’t say who your husband was, no matter what.”
Lux muttered, leaning back on the sofa.
