Chapter 244

“Your Imperial Majesty, you’ve scoured every corner and conquered them all. It’s time to give up.”
Liam knelt and implored, urging Albert to take care of his health. Schubert and Mercy echoed the duke’s sentiment.
Their only reason for standing by Albert, their liege, was to persuade him to live a more human-like life.
He was single-handedly waging full-fledged wars while barely sleeping for thirty minutes a day, conquering territories while still meticulously managing the tower.
Schubert boldly raised his hand and spoke, with Mercy following suit.
“I will find her.”
“I’ll assist with magic.”
It was a ridiculous proposition.
“How do you intend to do so when you can’t even see her?”
Albert chuckled quietly, narrowing his eyes. In his hand spinning was the fountain pen that Jung-in had customized for him.
He usually carried it around like a necklace—too precious to use.
Rising from his seat, Albert untied his cravat and clenched his fist. His veins bulged in his hand as he exerted his strength.
In addition to his sharp presence, his body had grown overall. Thanks to his magic, his swordsmanship had also surpassed human limits.
There was someone he needed to find, so his abilities and potential never stopped growing.
“And you speak of giving up. It hasn’t even been a year.”
The flicker in his eyes showed genuine perplexity. He truly felt that way.
Even if it took a lifetime, he would find Jung-in.
That much was not too difficult for him. But now, he might have to give up on this continent.
He had scoured every corner of this entire continent, but there was no information about Jung-in, nor any trace of her.
If she wasn’t on this continent, then…
“Maybe it’s time to cross over to another continent.”
“Your Majesty!”
“I can only assist so much in your tasks!”
Mercy cried out in frustration, genuinely upset. Using teleportation magic to aid Albert was one thing, but watching Albert wander aimlessly for a year was more than she could bear as his loyal subject.
She had held hope that she, too, could find Jung-in for him. But sometimes, people had to know when to give up.
“Now, it’s time to forget about Jung-in—”
“Say one more word and I will strangle you.”
Albert slowly raised his hand, muttering darkly.
His eyes, visible between strands of gray hair, were as red as the blood that had stained his hands over the past year.
The tension was suffocating.
Albert pressed his temples, speaking with a heavy, ferocious tone.
“Even if it’s you, there are boundaries to be observed.”
Locking eyes with Liam, Albert rose from his seat. He checked the time on his watch—it was time to attend to the tower’s management.
“Mercy, go and check on the status of Rosé Artius.”
“…Understood.”
“As for investigating voyages to other continents, Liam, you should take care of that.”
Liam remained silent. Albert knew Liam must be disappointed in him.
But what did it matter?
He had no purpose in life, no reason to live. He couldn’t afford to concern himself with criticism for simply doing what he had to do in order to live, to breathe.
Up until now, he had, at the very least, shown respect to Liam, Schubert, and Mercy.
Ultimately, Liam and the others left Albert’s room. Albert sat down on the couch for a moment, clutching his head due to a headache.
Lately, these headaches had become frequent.
Waging war, facing people in battles, Albert had repeatedly walked the precipice of magical depletion for a year on end.
Yet the magical power he had thought was almost exhausted just slowly, gradually increased.
Now, he had reached a level where the power of a mage like Mercy would look ridiculously trivial next to Albert’s.
…But it was all futile.
‘A world without you is meaningless.’
Albert chuckled wryly and began preparing to teleport. He was heading to the tower.
Even amidst wars and visits to other countries, Albert always made sure to stop by the tower.
It was the only place where he could reminisce peacefully about Jung-in and breathe.
Regardless of the pile of tasks that awaited him, he had never delegated this to someone else.
“Teleport.”
Albert’s vision suddenly shifted. Then, in a split second, he stood in front of the tower.
But he had a feeling that something was different than usual.
He even noticed irregularities in the spells he had cast around the tower.
…Who was it?
Albert racked his brain, trying to identify someone with the power to surpass his own magic.
However, no matter how hard he thought, he came up empty-handed.
He wouldn’t know until he’d go inside. Frustrated by the sudden headache that rushed over him, Albert cursed irritably.
“…This headache is killing me.”
His head and chest felt congested, as if something were trying to resurface.
Albert opened the door and found a pot on the stove with something cooking in it.
“……”
For someone to try and squat in this place. Such gall.
Should I rip them apart, or cut off their limbs?
Albert contemplated, thoughts already surpassing the boundaries of a normal person. He passed through the kitchen and went straight up the stairs.
…And there, he discovered a woman sleeping on his bed.
A woman with snowy white hair and a kind, gentle countenance.
His first love.
‘Why are you here…’
As the question passed through his thoughts, a wave of long-forgotten memories rushed into his mind like a tidal wave.
“You deserve to live.”
Starting with the image of the woman who first saved him—
“I will see you again. We will write contracts together and spend time together… And eventually, we will fall in love.”
“My name is… Jung-in.”
—Up to the moment she departed, revealing her name.
He remembered everything.
Tears welled up in Albert’s eyes.
‘I’ve been waiting for you all my life.’
Trembling, he approached Jung-in.
Finally, he was reunited with his first love and eternal savior.
