I Unintentionally Cured the Grand Duke’s Insomnia - Chapter 78
39. — Million’s identity (2)
“But why would the Black Marquis send me a gift? And what’s in the letter?”
“Um, I’m not quite sure about that either.”
Lily, who had been rolling her eyes in confusion as if taken aback by my question, broke into a brighter smile.
“Any, anyway! Please read it quickly. I mean, he wouldn’t send a gift and then write something rude, would they?”
“I couldn’t help but feel uneasy because it was from the Young Lord. Maybe it’s like an unlucky letter or something…?”
“An unlucky letter?”
“Yeah, you know. If I don’t open it, I’ll feel uneasy, but if I do open it, I’ll feel even more uneasy.”
Saying so, I chuckled mischievously at Lily’s words and picked up the letter that she said was from the Young Lord. Sure enough, there was a black seal imprinted on the envelope, symbolizing the Black Marquis family.
“What’s written on it?”
“I haven’t even opened it yet, Lily.”
“Then open it quickly, quickly!”
Cautiously, I opened the letter in response to Lily’s urging. As I furrowed my brow and read through the letter, Lily, who had been observing my reaction, couldn’t hold back and asked again.
“Why? Is there something bad written in it?”
“No, it’s nothing like that.”
“Well, then? What does it say?”
“…He wants to have a conversation about books.”
“If it’s a book, is it the one Young Lady published?”
“…Yeah.”
The letter was from Million. After apologizing for the incident at the square last time again, he asked if we could talk about books.
I touched my temple as I looked at his neatly written handwriting.
“By any chance, the Young Lady doesn’t want to go out, do you?”
“To be honest, I don’t want to go out.”
A week had elapsed since the incident took place in the square. Despite my optimistic expectations, Cus’s whereabouts remained unknown, and to my disappointment, no books had resurfaced in the market. In a hopeful attempt to witness a shift in the circumstances, I made my way to the square daily, only to find that rumors were proliferating instead.
Among the hearsay, one particularly intriguing rumor emerged, suggesting that the Young Lord Black had developed an affection for me, much like the Grand Duke before him.
“…Why would those main characters fall for someone like me?”
“Yes?”
“No, nothing.”
In response to Lily’s question, I shrugged as if it was nothing as my gaze drifted towards the beautifully wrapped gift beneath the letter.
Picking up the gift, which seemed to be the size of a book, I turned to Lily and asked.
“This gift is also sent by Young Lord Black, right?”
“Yes, that’s right. It was enclosed with the letter. Should I return it if you feel uneasy?”
“It’s alright. He went through the trouble of sending it, so I should at least see what it is.”
At the very bottom of the letter, Million’s words were written, saying, ‘It was a difficult thing to obtain, but I hope the Young Lady will like it.’ The subtlety of the words suddenly made me wonder if this could be my book because there was nothing more difficult to find than my book in Aren right now.
Million’s parting words, ‘It was a difficult thing to obtain, but I hope the Young Lady will like it,’ were inscribed at the very bottom of the letter. The subtlety of those words triggered a sudden speculation within me — could this gift possibly be my book? After all, there was nothing more difficult to find than my book in Aren right now.
Setting aside the letter I had been clutching, I proceeded to gingerly unwrap the package.
As the torn wrapping paper revealed itself, a vibrant red cover caught my eye.
…Red?
Thump, thump.
With my heart pounding, I swiftly discarded the remaining wrapping paper, revealing the encased book.. My eyes then widened as they quickly scanned the title, meticulously inscribed in elegant black letters.
⎾ What Happened in the Stable? 2 ⏌
….How, how is this possible?
It was said that the book hadn’t even been published yet. Not only that, but I remembered Note mentioning that the second sequel probably wouldn’t be available until after the celebration event when Irene returned to Aren.
As I quickly flipped through the book, my gaze stopped at the short passage written on the first page.
⎾ To Young Lady Adelia Blaise.
I hope that my book will bring you a little pleasure in your reading.
— Milcell. ⏌
The neatly written handwriting somehow felt familiar. I was certain I’d seen it somewhere…
“Young Lady?”
At the thought, I picked up Million’s letter from under the tattered wrapping paper. I placed Milcell’s written note next to the letter and quickly compared the two handwriting styles.
…They were identical.
Without a doubt, it was the same handwriting.
Seeing me jump up from my seat abruptly, Lily stamped her feet and shouted.
“Young Lady, what’s been going on with you since a while ago!”
“I’m going out for a bit.”
“Yes?”
“I need to meet the Young Lord Black.”
