I Unintentionally Cured the Grand Duke’s Insomnia - Chapter 147
74. — Misunderstanding Begets Misunderstanding (1)
A figure tossed and turned restlessly on the bed in the dimly lit room. Whether it was because he couldn’t sleep or because his mind was filled with too many thoughts, the man tossed and turned for a long time before finally sitting up.
Running a large hand through his messy hair, he muttered under his breath.
“Is he trying to get back at me?”
Despite the night growing deeper, the figure—Abel—still couldn’t find sleep.
He wiped his face, recalling the scene he had witnessed earlier that day. It was hard to believe, but the moment his eyes met his older brother, who was glaring at him like an enemy, forgotten memories flooded back. The fact that his real name was Abel Destro, and Cain was his only brother.
“What a mess.”
Even though he hadn’t expected a dramatic, tear-filled reunion, this certainly wasn’t what he had imagined either.
With a deep exhale, he rubbed the back of his neck as the memory of his brother’s eyes, like he was ready to kill him on the spot, lingered in his mind. Abel, conveniently ignoring the fact that he was the one who started the teasing, huffed and puffed in frustration.
‘I’m pretty sure he wasn’t this petty five years ago.’
He thought back to the Cain he remembered, then let out a small sigh and shook his head.
No matter how much he considered it, it didn’t seem like his brother was seeking petty revenge for what had happened at the return ceremony. If Cain had been trying to get back at him, he wouldn’t have shown such an indifferent expression toward Irene.
‘…So what the hell is going on?’
The truth was, after what had happened in the courtyard, Abel had already figured out that Cain had feelings for Adelia. Of course, that didn’t necessarily mean she felt the same way about his brother.
Frustrated, Abel finally gave up on trying to sleep and began pacing the room.
Not long ago, outside the room where the lord was being treated after the attack, he had seen Irene. Her face had turned bright red as she gazed at Cain.
Remembering that moment, his mind became tangled once again.
If Cain wasn’t just messing with him the way he had messed with him… did that mean Irene had feelings for him?
As he recalled the way Irene’s face had turned red while looking at his brother, it didn’t seem like such an absurd guess after all. In his mind, he pictured the two of them standing together, smiling at him. Even though it was just his imagination, they looked like a perfect couple.
The hero who saved Lian from danger and the empire’s only saintess… Would there be a single person in the empire who would oppose them being together?
The more he thought about the two of them, the more restless he became.
Dragging a hand over his face, he finally stepped out of the room. Since there was no way he was going to fall asleep, he figured it would be better to swing a sword instead.

I let out a shallow sigh and clenched my fists. After a sleepless night of overthinking, I finally felt like I had sorted my thoughts out.
Adelia had someone she was meant to be with.
Of course, whether that person was Andre Jackson or not, I wasn’t sure—but it wasn’t Cain.
Because if there was one thing I knew better than anyone, it was that Cain belonged with Irene.
As I thought about Lord Jackson, who always wore a kind smile, I tried to sort out my thoughts once more. Although he didn’t quite compare to the competition, if I was being honest, Andre wasn’t a bad choice either.
He was good-looking and well-built.
Kindness came naturally to him, and his gentle voice was pleasant.
If I really thought about it, for someone like Adelia, who was basically just an extra, he might have been too good for her. Of course, if I factored in the Blaise family’s wealth, Adelia might have had the upper hand. But right now, both the count and countess were in custody due to the allegations against them.
But more than anything, what mattered most was that Adelia’s heart—or rather, mine—didn’t belong to him. I didn’t want to choose Lord Jackson as a second option just because I couldn’t choose Cain.
That wouldn’t be fair to him or to me.
From what I had seen so far, Lord Jackson was a good man. The kind of man who put others first, someone who would risk his own life to protect his people and those around him.
I didn’t want to hurt someone like that.
“Alright, that’s enough. There’s no point in overthinking something that doesn’t even have a clear answer.”
I gave my cheeks a few light slaps, trying to snap myself out of my spiraling thoughts. Although I had been trying to sort them out, in truth, even that felt like a luxury given the situation.
I had to solve this case first, no matter what!
‘And once this case is even slightly sorted out, then I’ll let myself worry about my own life.’
With a lighter heart, I stepped out of the room, only to let out a startled scream when I saw Cain standing right there in front of me.
“Ack! What, what is it?”
“It’s still pretty early, but you’re already up and dressed. Where are you off to?”
“Me?”
I blinked at his question about where I was headed. Feeling puzzled by his sudden curiosity, I hesitated before responding cautiously.
“I was thinking of meeting Lord Jackson.”
“The acting lord?”
“Yes. Since he got hurt because of me, I figured the least I could do was help take care of him.”
Cain was silent for a moment at my calm response.
Thinking that might not have been the answer he was looking for, I tilted my head and saw the corners of his mouth twitch upward.
‘Wait, did he just smile?’
