I Reincarnated As A Villainess, But Why Did I Become A Cat Butler Instead? - Chapter 301
Chapter 151.1
Dimitri gently patted Rowaine’s back as she nestled quietly in his arms. As he glanced over, he noticed that Agaliaept, who usually lingered in her shadow, was nowhere to be seen.
‘He ran off.’
A smile crossed his lips.
At this moment, the demon no longer had a chance to worm its way into Rowaine’s heart and take control. It meant that his words had worked.
Dimitri kept patting her back softly and then, with a sudden sparkle in his eyes, asked.
“There’s somewhere we need to go, Rowaine.”
“Where?”
“Just hold on tight.”
Finishing his words, he lifted her up in his arms in one swift motion. Before she had a chance to scream, he leaped through the open window.
“What are you—Ahhh!”
Rowaine curled up and clung tightly to his neck.
Dimitri, finding her reaction adorable, let out a mischievous laugh and leaped off the demon.
Samael, whose wings Dimitri had trampled, glared at him with clear annoyance, but Dimitri didn’t care. Using Samael as a stepping stone, he leaped even higher. To an ordinary person who couldn’t see the demons, it would’ve looked like Dimitri was gliding gracefully through the sky on his own.
“Look up at the sky, Rowaine. It’ll make it less scary.”
“In the first place…! If we weren’t flying through the air like this…! There wouldn’t be anything to be afraid of…!”
Rowaine protested with a hint of frustration in her voice at Dimitri’s whisper. Still, she obediently turned her gaze to the sky, her expression on the verge of tears.
But those tearful eyes quickly transformed into ones of awe.
“Oh! A shooting star!”
Shooting stars were streaking across the sky amidst countless stars. Rowaine, grabbing her wind-blown hair, lit up with childlike excitement.
“Wow, it’s so beautiful!”
“It’s the perfect night for stargazing, with no moonlight to get in the way.”
Dimitri grinned proudly.
He gradually moved toward the plains, where there were no lights. As they ventured farther from the capital and the signs of civilization faded, the stars in the sky shone even brighter. The place where Dimitri stopped was an open field, surrounded by towering coniferous trees that formed a natural fence.
“Let’s run, Rowaine.”
As soon as their feet touched the ground, he grabbed her hand and began running.
Rowaine followed Dimitri, unsure of what was happening. The wind tangled her hair, and she gasped for breath, but the scenery before her was breathtakingly beautiful. The vast, open field stretched beneath a sky overflowing with stars.
As she ran toward the horizon, she felt like she was running straight into the sky itself, lost in the beauty of the moment.
“Haah, haah! I feel like I’m going to die…”
“How does it feel, Rowaine? Do you feel happy now?”
Dimitri asked as he stretched out his legs and sat beside Rowaine, who had collapsed onto the grass, out of breath. As she lay there, gazing up at the sky, her clear eyes reflected the shooting stars passing overhead.
She nodded confidently.
“Yes!”
Even though she was breathing hard and coughing a little, she couldn’t stop giggling. All she had done was run, yet for some reason, uncontrollable laughter bubbled up inside her.
Her face ached from smiling so much, and she thought, if this isn’t happiness, then what is?
Dimitri lay down beside her.
“I once heard that unhappiness gets carried away by the wind, and happiness is brought in by it. So, if you run in the wind long enough, all your unhappiness disappears, leaving only happiness behind. It’s kind of like what you said once about how exercise helps you feel better.”
Rowaine turned to face him.
“Where did you hear that?”
Dimitri hesitated for a moment before confessing.
“My master.”
“That’s Esca’s father, right?”
“Yes.”
Sensing the subtle shift in his mood, Rowaine opened her mouth slowly.
“Is it hard for you to talk about him?”
“It’s not that, it’s just my feelings are a bit…”
“…Are you sad? It seems that way.”
Dimitri shrugged his shoulders.
“Well, I don’t know. I’ve never really thought of it as sadness. It’s more that I just wanted to forget.”
“Why?”
“I was furious at myself for being so powerless when my master sacrificed himself to protect the tribe.”
He smiled bitterly.
The last memory of his teacher, who had sacrificed himself while trying to save the white wolf shapeshifter tribe captured by humans, was still painfully clear.
Dimitri had secretly followed his master that day, hiding and watching everything unfold.
“I still sometimes wonder what would have happened if I had been able to make a contract with the demon just a little sooner.”
“But you got your revenge, didn’t you, Dimitri?”
As Rowaine’s face twisted with sadness, Dimitri was furious that she knew about that.
“Did Esca tell you? That idiot really can’t keep his mouth shut!”
Rowaine looked startled.
“N-no, it’s not that…”
“You don’t have to defend him.”
Suddenly, Dimitri stood up, grabbed Rowaine, and asked urgently.
“How much did he tell you? Whatever he said, you don’t have to believe it.”
Dimitri feared that if Rowaine knew what he had done, she would be disappointed in him. He had never been afraid of anyone finding out before, but strangely, with Rowaine, he felt that fear. He hoped she would never learn of his cruelty. He didn’t want her to think of him as someone terrifying.
But the words that came from Rowaine’s mouth were unexpected.
“It’s okay, Dimitri.”
“What…?”
