I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 266
“And do you really think something will happen to me? You might be better with magic, but I’m better with the sword.”
“…I’ll just take you there.”
Maybe it was because time had passed since the meeting, or perhaps Tess had cooled down, but he agreed without hesitation. Even if I were to cause chaos in Glia, if this place falls, it’ll be a problem.
If the Southern Empire’s army advances and takes over our land, then we’d be in an entirely different situation.
“Let’s do that.”
“By the way, how do we move?”
“You need to strongly focus on the destination. The most important thing is your will.”
To better visualize the Southern Empire’s palace, I had looked at several paintings of it.
I strapped a bundle to my back.
“What’s this?”
“Spare weapons.”
I grabbed Tess, who was smiling like it was all amusing.
“Hold on tight. We might get separated.”
If we end up somewhere other than the Southern Empire’s palace, it’s better to be together than to reach different places, right?
“The destination is the Shining Spring. Got it?”
“Yes.”
Tess, who had his arms around me from behind, whispered in my ear. He seemed to be enjoying it, almost like we were going on a trip.
Hmm, maybe it’s a date. If it weren’t for us heading into enemy territory?
We jumped into the water inside the castle.
“Fwah.”
We swam toward the surface. Everything around us was eerily quiet.
I hope we’ve come to the right place…
“Yes.”
Tess seemed to have read my thoughts and whispered in my ear.
If a wizard was present, we might have been detected, but we used an invisibility spell.
“Euseniel, stay back.”
Tess hid me behind him. As he waved his hand, something began to appear in front of us.
“Kwaaaoo!”
It was a monster.
Tess’s idea of ‘using something other than the mirror to summon monsters’ had worked.
Now, no one would have to return to the Northern Empire, and we could avoid the trouble of bringing the mirror.
The monsters Tess had gathered around the border appeared and quickly scattered in all directions.
“Come carefully, Euseniel.”
“I got it. Don’t worry.”
Tess was going back to send more monsters through the mirror. Summoning monsters like this takes a lot of Tess’s energy.
“I’ll see you later.”
He pressed his lips to mine lightly before running deep into the palace. I had intentionally brought a different weapon to avoid detection.
“Uwaahh!”
“A monster!”
While the people inside the Southern Empire’s palace were distracted by the monsters, I jumped to the top of the building. With the invisibility spell in effect and everyone focused on the monsters, it wouldn’t be easy for them to spot me.
From the beginning, I had a different target in mind.
The Southern Empire Emperor’s chambers.
There was probably something important there—perhaps the body of the first emperor, or some crucial item. Like a hidden room in the Hill Palace.
Later, Tess secretly told me that if the first Emperor’s body was destroyed, it would be a huge blow to him as well.
Hearing this made me furious, but Tess just laughed.
Honestly, there doesn’t seem to be a sane person around me. So, I guess it’s up to me to keep things together and take care of the aftermath, right?
I tracked down a place dense with his magical energy, the same energy I had gotten used to during my captivity after being captured by the Southern Emperor. There was at least one good thing about being kidnapped.
Despite the overwhelming presence of people, magical energy, and the power of the monsters, it was easy when I used the method Tess had shown me.
Being in extreme situations lately must have sharpened my senses.
“I found it…”
The Southern Empire’s palace was mostly white or golden, making it shine. Unlike the Northern Empire’s palace, that is.
How contrasting.
The Northern Empire’s palace is dark and heavy, but this one was excessively bright. It wasn’t a light filled with salvation for the people, but an artificial gleam.
Much like the flawless white armor worn by the Southern Empire’s soldiers.
In the distance, a temple, taller than the other buildings, was visible. The building, seemingly covered in gold, looked overly extravagant.
“It’s really unpleasant.”
When I visit the Lux temple in Alin, I always feel a warm, comforting sensation, probably because of my elven blood. But here, it made me feel repulsed.
“On the outside, it’s clean, but in reality, it seems like a pile of filth.”
Even considering that I was an intruder, it didn’t feel good at all.
Strangely, the Southern Empire’s palace structure was quite similar to the Northern Empire’s.
I know the two empires were founded around the same time, but was the Southern Empire actually founded later?
Or could it be related to the blessing of light they received due to the devil that appeared on the surface?
At an odd time, my curiosity flared up.
But I didn’t get distracted and kept running.
I had found my destination, but there were significant obstacles along the way. Just like the Northern Empire’s palace, which suppressed intruders, this one did the same.
Unfamiliar magical energies constantly threw off my sense of direction. The only reason I didn’t suffer much damage seemed to be because I was half-elf.
Apparently, the elven bloodline blessed by the light is not something that should be killed.
Below, there was a commotion.
“Where did the monsters come from?!”
“Waaaah!”
“Don’t let them enter the inner palace. Where’s the sage? Isn’t there a high-level sage here?!”
“We only have low-level sages!”
The palace seemed lacking in soldiers compared to its size, which made sense since most of them had been drafted for the war.
Seeing the state of things, I couldn’t help but think that the Southern Emperor was definitely out of his mind for pushing the war this far.
As I neared the Emperor’s chambers, someone appeared silently.
“Hello, Euel.”
The person who appeared in front of me was a man in a white uniform with golden hair gleaming.
