I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 253
“To create the mirror, I’ll definitely need their help. At least, I should see it in person.”
“There’s no guarantee that showing it will work…”
I wonder if the promise from the silver dragon to help me is still valid?
“Alright, I’ll go. I need to see it as well, so let’s go together.”
Originally, Weathering wouldn’t even be able to enter the fairy realm without me.
I repeatedly insisted that Weathering needed proper treatment to be able to go to the fairy realm, despite his protests. I even threatened that if he didn’t get treated in time, I wouldn’t take him. Finally, he agreed to receive the treatment.
I then started wondering how I should send the message to Tess that I’d be later than expected.
I decided I should ask the Chancellor for help and headed to his office. On the way, I saw the Chancellor coming from the annex.
“Lady Hardland.”
He hurriedly stopped me, and I could tell from his urgency that something was wrong.
“I’ve heard quite a very…very interesting story from Piace…”
Piace was the senior wizard who treated Weathering.
The Chancellor tried to remain calm but kept repeating the same words, something he rarely did. His usual eloquent speech was gone, and it seemed he was quite flustered.
“He said the magic performed was based on the characteristics of the maternal bloodline of the Blest family.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
The Chancellor looked at me, unable to believe what I was saying.
“So, you’re telling me…”
Even in his confusion, the Chancellor caught on to what I was trying to say.
“…Are you saying Weathering Blest is my… grandson?”
His pupils were shaking, and his voice was trembling. It was the first time I had seen the Chancellor so rattled. I, too, hadn’t expected the day would come when I would reveal this, so I was a little taken aback.
“It was just a guess… but you were right.”
I wasn’t sure whether to feel relieved or sorry.
“How?”
The Chancellor murmured, though still shocked.
“It’s not Vante’s child. It’s from the maternal side, so Blest’s mother must be my blood relative…”
It seemed the Chancellor had realized the shocking truth, as his face turned pale. He wasn’t quite himself as he spoke in an unsteady manner.
“I only have one daughter. So, Riley, that child’s… huh.”
It looked like the Chancellor was asking me something without directly stating it.
I hesitated for a moment before giving a sigh and answering.
“I know Weathering’s father was the late Duke Lantia. He must have been adopted into the Blest family as an illegitimate child.”
“Blest… the senior wizard? Does he know about this?”
“No, Weathering doesn’t know. As I mentioned, I was only speculating.”
“You pieced together the situation from knowing about the senior wizard’s biological father and my daughter. Yes, I heard Riley’s portrait was seen in the Count’s estate. Ah, yes… yes, he looks just like her.”
Now that he knew, the Chancellor nodded as if he saw the resemblance. The once proud and energetic man seemed to age in an instant.
“Riley’s thick hair and gentle eyes. Not that vile Lantia scoundrel.”
He stumbled and leaned against the wall and gazed at me blankly.
“Why didn’t you tell me…?”
It seemed like he wanted to ask but quickly closed his mouth. Perhaps he guessed that I couldn’t easily say it.
“For now, keep it a secret. The fact that he is my grandson, and that I’ve learned of it. I’ll ask for Piace’s cooperation.”
“I’ll do so.”
The Chancellor quickly regained his usual composure and I told him that I wanted to leave a message for the Emperor.
“Don’t worry about that.”
The Chancellor assured me to leave it to him, and I decided to head straight to the fairy realm without stopping by home. I wanted to see my parents and Gael, but there was no time to delay.
Weathering had been receiving treatment diligently, and two days later, we were ready to depart.
“Weathering, do you know how to ride a horse?”
“No.”
The pale and weak Weathering answered weakly. In the end, we had to take a carriage to the entrance of Guana Mountain. It was slower than riding, but there was no other choice.
On the day of departure, I was taken aback by the sight of the knights surrounding the carriage, but the Chancellor, who had come to see us off, spoke firmly.
“Since you are the Emperor’s fiance, escorting you is essential.”
His gaze shifted to the pale Weathering, before looking away.
A bloodline that carried both his enemy and his daughter’s blood.
I couldn’t even begin to guess what the Chancellor was thinking.
“Huh?”
As I was about to board the carriage, I noticed a familiar face among the escort knights.
“Count Guard? Or rather, former Count Guard’s…”
“I’m the grandson.”
The man, who closely resembled Sir Guard, smiled.
“My father is on the battlefield, and I will be heading to war soon as well.”
He was the one who would deliver my letter to Tess.
“Some of us, including myself, will escort you to Guana Mountain and then return to head to the border. The rest will wait for you and the senior wizard at the base of Guana Mountain.”
He explained not to be surprised if the faces of the waiting team changed, and we set off.
Thanks to the smooth ride of the carriage, Weathering didn’t seem to have much difficulty. In fact, it seemed like the desire to reach the fairy realm was taking control of his body.
“I have something to say about the mirror too.”
Weathering pulled out an old-looking book from the luggage he brought.
“You mentioned the tool being in the form of a mirror. Mirrors aren’t just one type.”
He handed me a storybook about a stepmother obsessed with beauty, who tried to kill the child of her husband’s ex-wife who was prettier than her. The book featured a mirror that tells the truth.
“The uses of mirrors are more diverse than we know.”
“The mirror pendant Ruby gave me is the same. It was said to drive away evil things.”
