I Grabbed the Tyrant’s Heart - Chapter 219
With a sulky expression, Tess wrapped his arms around my waist and gently rubbed his lips against my temple. Holding me tightly as I tried to push away, he whispered,
“The general is fine, Euseniel.”
Then he made a request.
“Call me Tess.”
During the time we hadn’t seen each other, had he sharpened his seduction skills? His languid voice had a hint of musk, and the deepening sweet scent made my body feel relaxed.
“Uh?”
After fumbling with my words a few times, I managed to say his name with some effort.
“Tess.”
“Well done.”
General Panet looked at Tess with a curious expression as Tess rubbed his cheek against mine delightfully, but I couldn’t bring myself to push him away.
“It’s chilly, so let’s go down.”
As if in response to his whisper, the sound of a large horn echoed.
Booouuuuu—
“Oh, an enemy raid.”
The general, now more serious, shouted to the soldier outside the lookout.
“Send the signal to summon the Grand Wizard!”
He then began to explain quickly to me.
“Typically, a large-scale area magic will be executed two to three times. The initial attack occurs before the two armies engage in battle.”
“They’re trying to inflict maximum damage before the two armies clash.”
“Exactly. There are magical attacks during the battle as well, but the first strike is usually the most powerful. Given the potential damage, we need to use defensive magic to shield ourselves.”
The scale of magic the general described consumes a large amount of mana.
“If we use defensive magic, we won’t be able to cast offensive spells.”
“You grasped that immediately.”
Both area attack magic and defensive magic require similar amounts of mana.
Thus, if the enemy casts their attack first, we must defend, which reduces our opportunities to attack.
“The Southern Empire typically launches three attacks. Our side, depending on the Grand Wizard’s condition, might execute two, or on average, just once.”
“And there will also be minor spells used.”
“Yes.”
I fell silent and gazed outside the lookout. My tied up hair was blowing wildly in the strong wind.
Before the castle lay a wide expanse of dry plains, with dark green mountains rising abruptly at the edge.
“There, the Southern Empire forces are showing themselves.”
Soldiers clad in white armor emerged steadily between the mountains, maintaining their formation.
“It seems like now is a good time for the Lady to showcase her skills, especially since you’re specialized in large-scale magic.”
General Panet’s eyes were gleaming.
“Let’s initiate the attack.”
“Is there any specific magic you’d like to use?”
“Whatever you wish, Lady.”
Glancing at Tess, I noted that he was still smiling. Although he was cheerful now, I recalled how he could unleash thunder and lightning when his emotions got out of control.
Alright, I decided to use lightning.
As I imagined summoning the oddly close lightning, I felt the clouds start to swirl. Meanwhile, the white-armored troops organized themselves into a neat square formation.
It was almost a relief how easily the area was defined.
Boom, crack!
As the surrounding clouds began to gather, they quickly darkened into a deep gray. Perhaps sensing something, the Southern Empire troops hesitated.
Before they could scatter, I solidified my imagination.
“Descend.”
I extended my arm downwards to visualize the spell more easily.
Crash! Bang!
Dozens, if not hundreds, of white lightning bolts struck down.
Like a holy beam purifying the tainted earth, they rained relentlessly. The Southern Empire forces, caught off guard by our unexpected first strike, had no defenses in place.
Thanks to that, the lightning I unleashed was at full power, and once I depleted my mana, the clouds dispersed on their own.
As the lightning disappeared, all that remained was a devastated landscape, littered with fallen horses and soldiers.
The once-spotless white armor was now charred black, and the horses lay crumpled on the ground. Those trying to flee were also swept away by the aftermath.
“Ho… ho, ho…”
General Panet let out a hollow laugh, seemingly stunned, while the Grand Wizard, who had just arrived, stood speechless with his mouth open.
“Uh…”
Only I awkwardly chuckled.
“Looks like I miscalculated the power.”
The sky was clear, as if it had never been clouded at all.
“As expected, Euseniel, that was impressive.”
Now with his arms wrapped around my waist, Tess murmured in delight and everyone came to their senses.
“Amazing. With power like this, we’re more than ready for battle.”
General Panet seemed a bit excited, and the Grand Wizard, who had briefly taught me magic, greeted me warmly.
“Haha, Miss Euel! It’s been a while.”
“Hello, Grand Wizard.”
The Grand Wizard chuckled as he watched Tess brush away my hand. However, that amusement was short-lived as General Panet furrowed his brow.
“Oh, it seems there are more of them.”
Suddenly, more soldiers in white armor appeared from somewhere. This time, they were likely preparing to cast defensive magic, so they wouldn’t fall so easily as before.
“This time, I mean, it would be better for the Grand Wizard to handle the defensive magic.”
I glanced at the General, who looked for an explanation.
“The way the Grand Wizard and I use magic is different. While offensive magic can be varied, defensive magic has a limited number of types.”
