Chapter 47.1

Lloyd came looking for April early in the morning, saying that Claude was asking for her.
“Do I really have to go?”
After their conversation yesterday, she couldn’t quite figure out why, but seeing Claude made her feel uneasy. If she had her way, she’d prefer to delay seeing him for as long as possible. She definitely wasn’t in the mood to see him this soon.
But Lloyd’s next words snapped April out of her half-asleep state.
“The master couldn’t sleep.”
“What are you talking about? He couldn’t sleep?”
“Just as I said.”
“Didn’t he have coffee yesterday? Now that I think about it, I didn’t see him drinking it when I left.”
“He did have it.”
What in the world was going on?
‘But Claude wouldn’t lie about something like this, so I’d better go see what’s happening.’
With her eyes half-closed, April barely managed to change her clothes and headed to Claude’s office.
“I couldn’t sleep.”
As soon as she stepped inside, Claude spoke in a quiet whisper. His tone sounded normal, but there was a subtle hint of accusation.
Half-asleep up to that moment, April suddenly realized the meaning behind his words, and her eyes flew open.
“Yes, I heard.”
“You didn’t cast the spell?”
“No, I definitely did.”
“Then why couldn’t I sleep?”
“Well, maybe it was the coffee… you know, the caffeine.”
April trailed off, realizing how absurd she sounded. If he was the type who couldn’t sleep after drinking coffee at night, he should have been sleepless every single night before this. The idea that the caffeine suddenly took effect now was nonsense.
Claude replied with a hint of annoyance.
“Are you sure it wasn’t because you were thinking about Zenon Olson and forgot?”
“Don’t say such nonsense!”
April shouted back.
Ever since yesterday, Claude has been trying to link her with Zenon, but she wants no part of it.
“As I said yesterday, I have absolutely no feelings for Zenon Olson. You think I’d forget to cast a spell because I was thinking about him? I’m not that incompetent.”
Thankfully, her passionate response seemed to convince him.
“Right, that doesn’t seem to be it. Then why couldn’t I sleep?”
April stepped closer to Claude and examined his face. Despite claiming he hadn’t slept at all, Claude’s face was perfectly clear even this early in the morning. He didn’t have the telltale signs of someone who hadn’t slept—no bloodshot eyes, no dark circles from the lack of sleep.
In fact, he looked completely fine. So fine, in fact, that April found it hard to meet his gaze directly in the morning light.
April asked with suspicion in her voice, “Did you really not sleep?”
“Yes.”
“Not even a little?”
“Unfortunately.”
“But I made the coffee exactly like I always do. Nothing was different.”
April could say that with confidence.
‘Oh, now that I think about it, there was one thing.’
Claude had drunk his coffee later than usual yesterday.
“Could it be because you drank the coffee late yesterday? Maybe the magic’s effect wore off in the meantime.”
In truth, it wasn’t the most convincing story. Magic wasn’t like steam that evaporated in an instant, and it certainly wouldn’t lose its effect in such a short time.
But for now, it was the only reason she could think of.
“Let’s talk after you try drinking coffee again today. There could be a chance that the spell just didn’t work properly for a day.”
“Alright, I’ll try drinking it again today.”
Claude glanced at her as if asking what she was doing while she stood there awkwardly. It seemed he intended to drink the coffee right away. However, April had a different plan. Her mind swirled with a ‘just in case’ thought.
…What if she gave him the coffee now, and he couldn’t sleep again?
“I’ll give you the coffee before you sleep, just like always.”
Without waiting for Claude’s response, she headed straight to the kitchen. She hadn’t considered that her actions might provoke his anger. Perhaps she had become that bold, but at the same time, she felt equally nervous.
“What brings you here so early in the morning?”
Hans, who was yawning as he saw April stride into the kitchen, asked. Instead of answering his question, she shot back with her own question.
“Mr. Hans, are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
“Unwell?”
Hans gave a puzzled look as if wondering where this unexpected question was coming from, but he slowly rotated his right arm.
“Well, my shoulder feels a bit stiff because I haven’t been sleeping properly. But why do you ask…?”
This time, April skipped answering altogether and just brewed an espresso. Sensing something unusual, Hans didn’t press her any further. As she placed the dalgona she had prepared earlier on top of the milk and poured in the espresso, she didn’t forget to make a wish in her heart.
‘I hope Mr. Hans stays healthy and gets through today without any issues.’
After nervously swallowing, she handed the dalgona latte to Hans.
“I just wanted to make you some coffee.”
“This early in the morning?”
“Yes, this early.”
Even though he still looked confused, Hans took a sip without complaint as April watched him anxiously, following every little movement.
Seeing her concern, he seemed to catch on and spoke up.
