Chapter 36.2
‘I should probably make custom cappuccino cups as well.’
First, she poured espresso into a coffee cup before decanting the milk from the steam pitcher and starting to pour it into the cup. Of course, she didn’t forget to gently swirl the steam pitcher to ensure that the foam mixed well.
After carefully pouring milk into the brown espresso, a cappuccino with brown edges and a white center was created.
‘Dusting cinnamon powder on top would make it perfect.’
April sprinkled the cinnamon powder Hans brought her on top of the milk foam and smiled with satisfaction.
“Wow.”
Hans and Hannah both exclaimed in admiration simultaneously.
“Amazing!”
“Oh, it’s nothing special.”
April, feeling a bit proud for no reason, quickly made another cappuccino. She handed a cappuccino cup to the two people who were amazed by the coffee they saw for the first time.
“Try it once. It’s a different taste from Americano.”
While the two were tasting the cappuccino, April made another cappuccino for herself and took a sip with a trembling heart.
‘Yeah, this is what it tastes like.’
The first thing that entered her lips was the rich milk foam. The nutty flavor was followed by a stronger coffee than a cafe latte, with a distinctly bitter taste. It definitely had a robust taste.
‘Ah, I want to eat macarons.’
The taste naturally reminded her of a sweet dessert. Moreover, with the warm milk, it felt like her body was melting.
It was a rewarding taste after a month of working hard to make a steamer with Hannah. As she thought, April licked the milk foam on her lips and carefully observed Hannah and Hans’ reactions. The expressions of the two people with milk foam around their mouths brightened simultaneously as if it was prearranged.
“Oh, I love it. The coffee flavor is strong, but the taste is balanced by the milk foam.”
“This is amazing. How on earth did you come up with this foam? Wow, wow! This will definitely be popular!”
“Thank goodness.”
April breathed a sigh of relief.
‘It’s going to sell well.’
Seeing the reactions of the two, she wanted to introduce cappuccinos to others as soon as possible. And a few hours later, she made a cappuccino for Edmund, who came to practice coffee at the Duke’s estate. His reaction was similar to that of Hans and Hannah.
“It’s new. Maybe because of the foam, it’s smoother and has a richer taste than a regular cafe latte.”
“Right?”
“Yes, but the taste of coffee is strong, so it might be a matter of personal preference.”
“That’s right. That’s why we need cafe lattes.”
“Cafe latte?”
April also explained to him the difference between a cappuccino and a cafe latte. She didn’t just stop at explaining but even made a cafe latte for him as well.
“It’s definitely different.”
“Right? Now, Lord Edmund, remember that taste since you’re going to have to make it, too.”
That day, April showed Edmund how to use the milk steamer. Although he was unfamiliar at first, he quickly caught on. In the beginning, he often made rough foam, commonly referred to as ‘crab foam*,’ but after a few hours of practice, he managed to create smooth foam.
[ T/N: It refers to the kind of rough, large-bubbled foam that resembles the frothy bubbles seen around the mouth of a crab. In the context of making coffee, it describes poorly made, coarse milk foam that lacks the smooth, velvety texture desired in beverages like cappuccinos and lattes. ]
“Wow, you’ve improved a lot!”
“Is that so?”
“Yes! Now, I’m going to make a few more of these machines and put them in cafes, so you don’t need to come here anymore. You can practice at the cafe.”
“That’s good.”
Edmund, who was happily looking at the milk foam he had made, suddenly asked.
“Since I’m preparing the coffee, what are you going to do for dessert?”
“Oh, I haven’t told you yet. Before hiring Edmund, I already hired a baker. Her name is Sophia Sacher. She’s a former imperial baker, and she’s skilled in coming up with good ideas. Right now, she’s gone back to her hometown.”
April counted the days in her head.
“Now that I think about it, it’s about time for Sophia to come back.”
In the intermittent letters they had been exchanging, she’d read that she had developed a new recipe. When she asked what dessert it would be, Sophia only said that she would show it in person at the capital without giving any hints.
‘I can’t wait for Sophia to come back.’
What kind of new dessert would Sophia show? Would it be something that already exists on earth or a completely new dessert?
She was already looking forward to it.
