I Didn't Lull You to Sleep Only for You to Be Obsessed With Me - Chapter 46

Chapter 24.1
“Yes. Why do you ask?”
It wasn’t an obtrusive question, but rather that he was just genuinely curious. I couldn’t help but wonder why he was showing so much interest in me to this extent.
Claude explained calmly.
“White attribute magic, unlike other attribute magic, has a strong genetic element. Didn’t you know?”
Seeing April, who seemed confused, he questioned her.
“Yes. I didn’t really know.”
“Then, let’s take this opportunity to find out more.”
“Yes.”
“Anyway, the manifestation of white magic has a strong genetic component, so it’s possible that one of your parents is a white attribute wizard. If you wish, I can try to find your parents among white attribute wizards.”
“My parents?”
“Yeah. As a business partner, I can do that much.”
However, it was a problem not worth worrying about. If it had been Yoon Min-ah, it might have been valuable information. But right now, it wasn’t a particularly appealing proposition for her.
‘On the contrary, finding a family may only hinder me.’
April shook her head.
“It’s okay.”
“Why?”
“Maybe it would have been the case when I was younger, but now I don’t really want to go looking for them. I don’t want to expend the emotional energy.”
Claude didn’t ask twice.
“I understand your feelings well.”
“By the way, have you managed to gather all the necessary information as your business partner?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I didn’t intentionally approach you to target the Duke, so please don’t suspect me. In fact, I just wanted to live leisurely and run my cafe.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
April sighed in relief. It seemed like his words were sincere.
Then, Claude asked.
“Do you have any questions about me?”
At those words, she was taken aback. She had never considered the possibility that Claude would ask such a question.
“…If I ask, will you answer?”
“Depending on the question.”
There was a question she wanted to ask.
What about the Duke? What kind of life have you lived?
Since he was the protagonist in the novel, April knew him well. His childhood, his relationship with his parents and siblings, his relationship with Asher, and so on. However, suddenly, she felt the desire to hear it directly from Claude’s mouth.
‘But it’s something that can’t be asked.’
She had almost forgotten that he was being a little soft on her, but the person she was dealing with was the infamous Duke of Winterville, Claude. If she asked him such questions, he might cut off her head for offending him.
So, April posed a simple question.
“So, did you enjoy the Americano I gave you before, or did you like the hand-drip coffee I gave you today?”
“Is that really the question?”
She shrugged her shoulders.
“I am the Duke’s barista. So, for me, that’s the most important question.”
“Hmm…”
Claude thought for a moment before responding.
“I think the coffee I drank today was better.”
“In that case, I’ll prepare hand-drip coffee for you from now on.”
Suddenly, April realized something funny and let out a chuckle.
‘There was more caffeine in hand drip coffee than in Americano.’
There were people who occasionally thought that the caffeine concentration in an Americano was higher than in hand-drip coffee. However, the longer the coffee was brewed, the more caffeine was extracted. Therefore, for the same amount of coffee beans, hand-drip coffee, which took a longer time to extract, had more caffeine than espresso, which was an espresso that brewed in seconds under high pressure.
Following the same principle, after a few hours in cold water, it was found that cold-brewed coffee was more caffeinated than hand-drip coffee.
‘If you’re someone who usually has trouble sleeping, you should probably avoid drip coffee because of the caffeine.’
Though Claude was drinking coffee to sleep, even thinking about it again, it was amusing.
“Why are you smiling like that?”
However, it was obvious that he wouldn’t understand if she talked about caffeine, so April just casually changed the subject.
“Just because. I also talked with the Duke about this and that…”
“Is that why you don’t like it?”
“Rather than saying I don’t like it… It’s just intriguing.”
Although it was a casually mentioned statement, in reality, she found the current situation of conversing with Claude intriguing.
Honestly speaking, until now, he had been nothing more than a character on the pages for her.
It couldn’t be helped. After all, this place was a world from a book, and she had only been here for barely three months. So even though she decided to live as ‘April,’ she still couldn’t feel that this place was real. There were times when she wished that every morning, upon opening her eyes, she would return to being Yoon Min-ah, who was in Korea.
At least Asher, with whom she had emotional exchanges over the past ten days, still seemed like a living person. However, with Claude, she hadn’t had much interaction with him, so she had less time to judge him as a person.
All she knew about him was the information she had read in the novel.
But was it because she caught a glimpse of his sincere story?
For the first time today, he felt like a human being. Unlike the epithet of being cold-blooded, warm blood seemed to be coursing through his veins. When she became aware of that, Claude somehow felt different, and suddenly, she couldn’t look into his eyes anymore.
The reason was unclear.
She got up from her seat as if she were trying to flee.
“Ah, I’ve taken up too much of the Duke’s time. I’ll be on my way now.”
As she gathered all her belongings and headed out the door, all of a sudden, she wondered if facing Claude every day and making coffee for him was really an easy task.
