Side Story 3

—
The young and beautiful new imperial couple departed on their honeymoon the next day.
Given the vast territory of the Adelio Empire, there were several candidates for their honeymoon destination, but at Sera’s suggestion, they decided to go to the northern part of the empire, a place they had never visited before.
It was a long journey that started early in the morning with a carriage ride followed by a long train ride, only arriving in the evening. However, the northern part of the empire was as beautiful as it was worth the trip.
“Sera.”
As the cottage began to peek through the trees heavily laden with snowflakes, Helios called his wife’s name with a calm voice. Tired, she had been leaning on his shoulder the whole way, deep in sleep, and still hadn’t opened her eyes.
“Sera.”
Helios gently brushed her disheveled black hair and tried to wake her again.
This time, Sera rustled a bit as if waking from sleep.
“Mmh. Have we arrived?”
Her voice was languid and sweet.
“We’re about to get off.”
Knowing they had arrived, Sera smiled with half-closed eyes, struggling to keep them open.
She seemed to want to wake up, but her body didn’t seem to comply.
“Want to sleep a bit more?”
Thinking it might be nice to carry her asleep into the cottage, Helios lightly kissed her forehead.
Sera, still with her eyes closed, realized what touched her forehead and chuckled.
“No, we can’t keep the knights waiting. I’ll get up now.”
Sera tried to open her eyes fully and push herself up using his shoulder.
But when he didn’t move away easily, she tilted her head in confusion.
“Heli?”
Helios simply smiled silently. Then, looking exceedingly happy, he watched his lovely wife for a bit longer and gently cupped her cheek with his large hand.
His lips slowly drifted down, brushing against her eyes and nose, pausing briefly on her slightly parted lips.
“You’re even prettier today.”
After a short kiss, Helios whispered in her ear.
Sera blushed shyly, pretending not to be affected, and turned her head away.
Just then, the carriage stopped.
A knight, wearing a thick coat, knocked on the carriage door.
“Your Majesties, we have arrived.”
White breath dispersed into the air.
Helios nodded briefly, indicating he was ready to disembark, then turned to look at Sera.
She was staring intently outside the window, apparently captivated by the frosty white landscape.
“Let’s get up. I’ll help you with your cloak.”
Helios rose first and helped Sera stand. Then, he neatly gathered her long hair and draped it over her shoulders.
As his fingers brushed against her nape, Sera shivered.
“Why are you trembling?”
“It’s just…”
Despite her words implying it was nothing, Sera’s voice quivered a little.
Helios grinned mischievously and kissed her lightly on the neck.
“I forgot. Your neck is sensitive.”
“Heli!”
Now her ears were as red as her cheeks.
Helios chuckled and took the neatly folded cape from the chair. He draped it over her shoulders and tied the ribbon securely to keep it from slipping, as Sera muttered under her breath.
“It feels like I’ve become Their Highnesses Rosé and Ferre, being dressed up like this.”
“A husband’s basic duty is to take care of his beloved wife.”
“That’s a commendable attitude for a husband.”
Helios looked down at his wife wrapped in a cape, finding her incredibly cute in the bulky, large garment, her face buried in soft fur.
“Why are you laughing?”
When Helios watched her silently with a smile on his lips, Sera tilted her head in puzzlement.
Helios laughed heartily again.
“I thought it would make you look even cuter.”
Suddenly, he stretched out his long arm and placed a large hood attached to the cloak over her head.
The hood was so fluffy that it covered half of her small face.
“I can’t see anything.”
Sera playfully reached out with her hands, which groped around and ended up petting his head.
Her hands traveled from his forehead down to his soft cheeks.
“What’s this? It’s so squishy.”
Helios quietly observed his wife’s mischievous hands, then suddenly captured them. He pressed his lips against the inside of her soft palm.
“Naughty hands.”
“Ah!”
Sera struggled to pull her hand away, but Helios did not let go. Instead, he signaled to a knight to finally open the door, and Sera was led out while still unable to see.
Crunch. As soon as the cold snow crunched underfoot, Helios scooped Sera up in his arms. Reflexively, she wrapped her arms around his neck, and the hood flew back.
At his sudden action, Sera whispered in his ear.
“Everyone can see us. Please put me down.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because your high heels might make you slip on the ice.”
With a determined face, Helios shook his head and carried Sera towards the cottage.
It was a moment when the love-filled tale of the imperial couple spread throughout the northern part of the empire.
