Chapter 299

The grand wedding was greatly celebrated.
The streets were filled with people celebrating the birth of the new imperial couple, and the cheers and congratulations were more enthusiastic than ever.
By the time Sera and Helios finished the parade and returned to the palace, it was well past late afternoon.
That was when the new tension started creeping up on Sera.
She thought she could finally rest upon arriving, but was immediately caught by her handmaids.
She didn’t think much of it as they removed her wedding dress and petticoat, and untangled the dozens of pins and ornaments from her hair.
However, her thoughts changed after a bath with soft scented oils and when her nails were being done.
It dawned on her what was coming next.
When the handmaids dressed her in a nightgown decorated with delicate lace, Sera almost reached her limit of embarrassment. It was too risqué to be called a modest nightgown.
She was astonished and blushed seeing her reflection in the mirror.
Unable to wear it, she asked for another nightgown, and the maids bowed their heads one after another.
“This is the most modest nightgown, Your Majesty.”
“The other nightgowns are a bit more daring.”
Reluctantly, Sera asked for at least something to wear over it.
She managed to get a robe, but it was a sheer lace robe that was hardly different from her nightgown. She sighed deeply as she looked down at her attire.
“Ah.”
With a nervous heart, Sera reached for the doorknob. She took a deep breath and opened the door to the bedroom she would share with Helios.
“Heli?”
As the door clicked open, Helios, who had been sitting on the edge of the bed adjusting his robe, stood up.
His mouth slightly opened as he saw her, her soft hair cascading down one side.
Sera’s face flushed again at Helios’s reaction.
“It’s a bit much, isn’t it…?”
“No, you’re beautiful.”
Helios reassured her as she shyly ducked her head.
Sera smiled faintly but couldn’t meet his gaze and looked around nervously.
When she noticed the wine set up on the bedside table, a bright smile appeared on her face.
“Helios, shall we have a drink?”
Sera cheerfully suggested, clearly relieved to find something to lessen her tension.
Honestly, Helios was as nervous and excited as she was, but seeing her more tense, he chuckled softly.
Her obviously intended action was endearing.
Understanding the meaning of his laughter, Sera didn’t ask why he laughed.
Instead, she shamelessly handed him an empty wine glass and whispered softly.
“You’ll join me, right?”
“Of course.”
Helios responded with a remaining chuckle in his voice and sat down beside Sera.
He elegantly poured the wine, and as befits the special occasion, golden bubbles frothed in the glass.
“Drink slowly.”
Handing her a moderately filled glass, Helios advised her.
But the extremely nervous Sera seemed to want the courage from the alcohol, drinking the strong wine like it was water.
“Sera, this isn’t water. If you drink it all at once like that, you’ll get drunk.”
“What? Heli?”
With a quickly reddened face, Sera looked up at Helios.
Her eyes and speech already seemed tipsy, and Helios sighed with a mixture of laughter.
“That’s why I told you not to rush.”
He took the glass from Sera’s hand.
With a pout like a child whose toy was taken away, Sera reached out her hand, asking for her glass back.
“Give it back.”
“No, wait a bit longer to drink.”
“Heliii.”
At that moment, Sera lunged into Helios’s arms, ostensibly to snatch the glass back.
Her hot body temperature transferred to Helios as their bodies pressed closely together.
Helios glanced down at Sera, who was almost clinging to him.
Sera’s cheeks were flushed a rosy color, and her lips glistened, moistened by the wine.
Suddenly feeling intoxicated despite not having drunk a sip, Helios quickly averted his gaze.
‘This is driving me crazy.’
“Ahem.”
Sensing the change in Helios’s expression, Sera cautiously moved away from him.
A tense, awkward atmosphere mingled with an alluring undertone under the dim lighting.
“I… I’m sorry.”
While gently stroking Helios’s hand resting on the table, Sera whispered.
Certainly, her intentions were not as Helios felt, but even the sensation of her fingers lightly brushing his hand was sweetly tormenting to him.
“I was just really thirsty.”
With her soft voice and the gentle fragrance that wafted to his nose, Helios felt his senses being tickled.
“But now I think I’m mentally prepared…”
The moment these words spilled through Sera’s lips, Helios could no longer hold back.
He swiftly lifted her and sat her down on his lap.
Sera seemed startled at first but soon smiled shyly. She draped her arms around his neck, eyes hooded.
Swoosh. The loose lace robe slid down her petite, round shoulders.
Helios’s gaze lingered on Sera’s pale neck for a moment before he reached for the wine glass.
A burning thirst overcame him.
After swallowing just one sip of wine, Helios gently cupped Sera’s cheek with careful hands.
As Sera closed her eyes, he naturally pressed his lips to hers.
The kiss that started gently heated up, and their lips parted slightly. As Helios gently stroked Sera’s back, she shivered.
“Are you nervous?”
He briefly broke the kiss to ask with a breathy voice.
Looking up at him with a dazed expression, Sera answered with a trembling voice.
“A little. You?”
“Me too.”
Helios pulled her hand to rest over his heart on the left side of his chest.
Ba-thump, ba-thump.
Her hand felt the heartbeat that raced just as fast as hers, and Sera giggled.
“We’re the same.”
They gazed into each other’s eyes quietly before Helios lifted Sera up.
On the way to the bed, gentle kisses rained down on her forehead, eyes, and nose.
