Chapter 240

Not long after, they arrived in front of a forest lake that was within the grounds of the imperial palace.
Assisted by Helios, Sera dismounted from the horse. She couldn’t help but be captivated by the breathtaking scenery.
The lavender sky of approaching evening, the lake, and the distant golden lights beginning to shine.
It was just so picturesque.
“I’ve always wanted to bring you to this beautiful place.”
Helios said to Sera, who kept looking around.
His tranquil face, tinged with the colors of sunset, was exceptionally clear.
In the space outside the imperial palace, amid the excitement of officially becoming a couple, Sera shyly looked at him.
“It feels like a real date.”
“It is a date.”
Helios chuckled cheerfully.
He had previously shaken his head and told the knights, who automatically followed, to stand back, and he naturally fell in stride next to Sera.
The distance was just like that of lovers whose shoulders touch.
“I should get things ready. Quickly.”
At Helios’s sudden remark, grumbling and a light sigh lingered in the air.
“Ready?”
Sera asked softly, and in response, Helios gently took her hand, lifting it onto his arm.
“We can’t keep sneaking around forever. As Rosé said, dating in secret can be fun, but even holding hands like this is challenging.”
“That’s true.”
Sera agreed with those sensible words.
Dating outside the imperial palace, especially with the emperor, required constant vigilance.
It was difficult enough for their hearts to connect, and meeting also came with many constraints.
“Do you have any plans in mind?”
Although there were worries about the large mountains they had to overcome, Sera smiled brightly as she asked.
Having decided to be with Helios, she resolved to cherish the current moments and put in effort wherever possible.
Helios scanned Sera’s face and soon spoke honestly, as if reading her determination.
“I’ll start by looking into a family. If things go well at the Magic Academy, which was your idea in the first place, we might have that into consideration. However, it’s hard to estimate how long it will take.”
“I didn’t expect it to happen in a short time either. But if I have a bit of ambition, I was hoping… At least maybe before I become a grandmother? Haha.”
When Sera expressed her reluctance to wait until becoming an old lady, Helios nodded, acknowledging that he felt the same way.
He looked at Sera with a playful smile.
“Well, if it gets too difficult, we can let Rosé and Ferre take over when they reach a suitable age.”
“Huh…?”
Sera, bewildered, could only gape at him.
She couldn’t utter anything back, even when the words, ‘Please don’t say that, even as a joke,’ were at the tip of her tongue because of how serious he looked right now, contradicting his light-hearted tone.
While Sera was still figuring out what to say, Helios spoke again.
Despite making a shocking statement, he was unbelievably casual and smiled.
“Why? Do you dislike it if I’m not an emperor?”
“No, no! Of course not…”
Only by abdicating the throne would many of the obstacles against marriage be resolved.
If he wasn’t an emperor, there would be no reason to care about the social status of his spouse.
Helios, however, could not abdicate and hand over the emperor’s crown to his younger siblings at the moment.
He wasn’t the kind of man who’d burden his younger siblings with such a heavy responsibility.
Therefore, at least another ten years would be needed before Rosé or Ferre could take over.
In other words, if Helios insisted on not marrying until then, he was willing to live alone and give up all the privileges he had.
Sera didn’t expect his determination to be this strong. She took a deep breath.
Perhaps he had considered all these situations and decided how to act once he confessed his feelings to her. So, getting closer to Helios as they were still arm-in-arm with each other, Sera spoke with determination.
“I’ll do whatever I can. Until the very end. And I won’t give up no matter what happens.”
“I like it. That attitude.”
Helios expressed satisfaction with Sera’s resolve and smiled contentedly. Sera’s expression showed willingness to do anything for him.
“So I was thinking, when I call you to the palace sometime soon, I can use ‘academy system consultation’ as an excuse. And it would be nice since you’d be able to lend me tremendous help.”
“Anything is fine, Your Majesty. Just call me.”
Determined, Sera’s eyes sparkled. Helios was expected to respond with the same smile, but strangely, one of his eyebrows lifted.
“Wait a moment.”
Unlike before, Helios stopped in his tracks, lowering his voice.
“What is it, Your Majesty?”
“Isn’t something a bit odd?”
“Odd? What do you mean?”
His violet eyes stared at Sera silently.
“What do you mean ‘Your Majesty’, Sera? That night, we practiced calling each other, and now you’ve gone back to calling me so formally.”
