Chapter 228

The imperial villa. It must truly be about the perilous incident that happened at that time. There was nothing else that they’d have to talk about.
And just by Helios’s expression right now, what he wanted to talk about was surely grave.
Sera nodded with a serious face. In the first place, she wouldn’t have been able to refuse anyway.
“Ah… I understand.”
“Then, I’ll see you later this evening. Rosé, Ferre, I’ll see you this evening as well. Don’t give Miss Popo a difficult time.”
“Yes, yes, Oppa. See you later.”
“Hyung, see you later!”
Rosé and Ferre waved their hands in goodbye.
When Helios left and the door closed behind him, Rosé went closer to Sera urgently. Then, she whispered into Sera’s ear.
“Sera, Sera. Why is Oppa calling you separately? Isn’t it good news?”
On the contrary, Sera was thinking the exact opposite. She let out a long sigh and caressed Rosé’s hot forehead.
“Your Highness’s fever is so high that you must be delirious. Please lie down.”
However, Sera soon became even more wrought with anxious thoughts, dotted with worries on what she might just hear later this evening.

“Since Their Highnesses have fallen asleep, their manifestations will be more frequent now, Your Majesty.”
Roward bowed towards the emperor, speaking in a voice full of tiredness.
Each strand of his strong white eyebrows showed signs of fatigue that’s close to exhaustion.
This was just one side effect to constantly holding up a spell to calm down the mana manifestation of both Rosé and Ferre without a moment’s rest.
Helios might not know the full extent of it because he wasn’t there, but Sera was there beside the old mage. There were new bloody footprints on the pillows as evidence.
The twins’ manifestation had gotten worse since the afternoon, but it became even more intense as the night went on. What exactly happened there was beyond imagination.
Rosé and Ferre’s toys marched in lines and fought hard against each other as though they were waging a war. Sera was completely tongue-tied.
The excited Rosé and Ferre leaned onto each other on the bed and shouted their hurrahs, but eventually, the chandelier and the bed shook so severely that the mages suffered quite a lot.
“Were Rosé and Ferre difficult to handle today as well?”
With her eyelids drooping to a close, Araella couldn’t resist the urge to yawn. And, seeing this, Helios asked her that question with a sad face.
Araella quickly covered her mouth, but nonetheless, she nodded and held back her tears.
There was no lie in Araella’s response, but Roward was understandably startled by the girl’s overly straightforward demeanor. He poked her foot with his cane.
Belatedly realizing how rude she had been, Araella quickly tried to cover it up.
“It… It wasn’t too bad, Your Majesty!”
Haha. At this, both Sera and Helios laughed lightly at Araella’s truthful reply.
Roward could only look at Araella with a surprised face, but Helios wasn’t the kind of man who’d scold anyone for that.
“Please continue taking good care of them tonight.”
The twins had fallen asleep earlier than usual due to the pain they were feeling. Glancing down at them, Helios asked the maids and the mages this favor, though it was already their duty.
Amidst the peace that now enveloped the room as the twins were properly taken care of, only Sera was now anxiously holding down her racing heart.
Her turn to speak with him was approaching.
Sure enough, Helios whispered to her with a knowing look.
“Miss Popo, your carriage is ready, but may I have a moment with you before you go?”
Just like that, Sera followed Helios to the terrace on the first floor of the Star Palace.
Then, they stayed like that for a while. He was the one who called her here, yet it seemed like he had nothing to say.
Why couldn’t he talk to her easily?
Was he worried about the knights and the handmaids? Doing nothing else, he merely stared at the trees of the imperial palace’s pathways in front of him, his gaze deep.
As darkness had blanketed over their surroundings, the palace was blissfully beautiful in a different way compared to the last time she was here.
The trees were now a sea of autumn’s red and orange hues.
Whenever a chilly wind would pass by, the red-colored trees shook along with the night’s whispers.
As the silence between them went on longer, Sera became even more worried about what Helios was going to say.
“Your Majesty, you mentioned that there’s something you wish to tell me, but you aren’t talking. Is something the matter?”
When Sera carefully said so, Helios slowly turned to face her.
That silent gaze, impossible to read, stared at her.
Sera, on the other hand, was looking at Helios’s hands. She didn’t know why, but by the looks of his clenched fists, he seemed nervous.
“Is it related to what happened at the Imperial Villa? If there’s anything I need to know about the unsavory incident back then…”
The cold autumn wind blew past and permeated the fabric of her thin dress.
Unconsciously, Sera shivered because of the chill.
Noticing this at once, Helios tried to take off his coat for her, but Sera immediately turned him down.
“It’s alright, Your Majesty.”
She shook her head with a smile, but in turn, an expression that seemed to carry guild passed through Helios’s face.
With a barely visible smile, Helios nodded and didn’t insist.
“…The incident at the Imperial Villa is still being investigated by the mages. But, Miss Popo, that’s not the reason why I asked for your time today.”
Sweeping up his neat silver hair with one hand, Helios spoke with a low voice.
As his answer was not what she was expecting, Sera felt her heart pounding with an unknown emotion. She didn’t know whether it was simply because she was anxious or because she was feeling something else.
“Then, why did Your Majesty say that you have something you wish to talk about privately…”
Sera trailed off, noticing the deep gaze directed towards her.
With a beautiful smile resembling the starry night, yet again, the look in his eyes as he glanced down at her was making her want to misunderstand.
However, experiencing such a thing once before was enough. She knew that she shouldn’t have false expectations any longer.
“I missed you.”
So, it was impossible to believe what he just said to her. Sera looked up at him.
But there, Helios’s expression was infinitely serious.
“Your Majesty… Could you repeat what you said? I think I heard it wrong.”
Sera frowned and asked him this.
And, without a shadow of his prior hesitation, Helios answered right away.
“I missed you. So very much.”
