Chapter 221

“Your Majesty… How in the world am I supposed to accept this situation…”
Sera murmured as her expression hardened unknowingly.
Until just a moment ago, Richard had been here with her, and they actually had a nice, friendly atmosphere between them. It wasn’t bad.
She couldn’t make heads or tails out of why he suddenly left as though he was running away.
But there’s no doubt about one thing: it was Helios’s words that served as a trigger.
It was obvious from Richard’s expression alone.
Embarrassment. Shame.
With Rosé and Ferre hugging her waist, Sera kept her hands on the children’s shoulders while looking up at Helios.
He was the kind of man who was usually mindful of the person he was speaking to, and he’d normally make sure that they wouldn’t feel embarrassed or anything. Sera couldn’t help but be curious as to why he was being rude now.
“For what reason did you do that…”
“……”
However, Helios remained silent as he stared back at sera.
“Count Peters had prepared a lot for today.”
Count Peters.
Helios’s expression momentarily flickered as Sera spoke of the other man’s name.
With his eyes once again taking in the large bouquet of roses behind Sera, Helios slowly opened his lips to speak.
“So it really was a date… wasn’t it?”
“Pardon me? A date…”
“He gave you flowers.”
“Why are you pointing that out…”
Sera was bewildered.
“He’s not a good match, Miss Popo. I would recommend for you not to pour any more feelings towards such a man.”
Good match?
Judging by his soft tone, it sounded like he was advising her kindly. But at that very moment, Sera felt vexed.
It was their first time meeting again after a month, and during the last time they saw each other, they said their farewells so awkwardly. It even felt to her as if he was offended by her.
But what’s this? Why was he feeling so compelled to tell her that the man who left just now was not a good match for her?
When they had been at the imperial villa, he admitted it himself— it was this kind of ambiguous behavior that was causing her to misunderstand. Nothing had changed.
As her thoughts reached this point and now feeling a little angry, Sera replied to him. Her eyes were enough to express that she felt that this situation was unfair.
“In other words, Your Majesty, you’re saying that you kicked him out on purpose without telling me the reason first?”
Rosé and Ferre tilted their heads to the side then looked at her. They were surprised to hear Sera speak in such a sharp tone since they had never heard her like this before.
“Seeera?”
“Sera, are you angry?”
Ah! Their Highnesses are here!
Sera quickly put on a smile and shook her head.
“No, Your Highnesses. I’m not angry.”
Despite how rude it would be to him, Sera wanted to tell off Helios a little more. However, when she saw Rosé and Ferre again, she had to stop herself. She forced down the rising surge of incredulity within her.
As Sera was looking at him with such a stiff expression, Helios’s pupils trembled.
“I didn’t mean to, Miss Popo.”
“Then?”
“Count Peters is certainly a decent enough person. He inherited his family’s title, he’s sociable and he maintains proper etiquette. But he…”
Helios stole a glance at his younger siblings and sighed.
“He partakes in gambling to an immoderate degree.”
“Gambling?”
“Because of that, his household’s finances have been in the red ever since Count Peters took over. I don’t think many people know of this yet.”
Hearing this for the first time, Sera frowned.
Ferre tugged her sleeve.
“Gambling? What’s that, Sera?”
With an innocent face, Ferre tilted his head to the side.
Rosé was the only one out of the twins who noticed how awkwardly tense it was between Sera and Helios.
Studying the two adults’ unusual expressions, Rosé quickly dragged her little brother away by the sleeve.
“Um… Sera, Heli Oppa. Me and Ferre are going back to our seats first.”
“Now, Your Highness? But you should stay a little longer.”
Not wanting to be alone with Helios, Sera urged Rosé and Ferre.
“But, well… Ferre said he’s thirsty. He wants to drink some water. Right, Ferre?”
Rosé looked at Ferre expectantly.
However, as Ferre had yet to read the room, he shouted back and pouted.
“I never said that though, Rosé? I’m not thirsty. Why are you lying?”
Sera’s eyes headed to Rosé, who then forced the corners of her lips to tug up into an awkward smile.
“You told me a while ago, Ferre. Why would I lie?”
“I told you a long time ago that I wanna drink water. I don’t want that now. I wanna stay with Sera longer!”
“No! You want to drink water! Come with me!”
Ferre stubbornly clung to Sera so that he wouldn’t be separated from her, but Rosé forced him off of her.
Snatching Ferre’s little arm and linking it with her own, Rosé left with her twin, practically dragging him away.
“Your Highnesses! Wait a minute!”
Sera shouted after Rosé and Ferre, but the two of them had already left.
Silence full of awkwardness fell between them. Sera looked at Helios.
There was also an uncomfortable smile on his lips. It’s clear that he was feeling awkward, too.
“Well… Your Majesty.”
Gulping dryly, Sera didn’t know what to do now, and neither did she know what to say.
She didn’t know whether she should be glad or not that she’d been told that Count Peters had a problem.
There were quite a few people who had blown away their fortunes through gambling, so if the count had a predilection for gambling, that’s definitely not just a minor thing.
“But still, no matter what… Your Majesty, you weren’t acting like yourself a while ago.”
Sera sighed.
“I wasn’t? I’m… I’m sorry for putting you in a tough spot, Miss Popo.”
Helios nodded slightly, readily admitting his faults.
“Not just towards me, but …”
“Pardon?”
“Never mind, Your Majesty. It’s nothing.”
Sera wanted to say that Helios’s actions were too much not just to herself, but also to Count Peters. However, she just closed her lips.
Who would dare rebuke the emperor.
However, Helios then mentioned the other man first, as though noticing what Sera wanted to say.
“Yes, of course. I’ll handle things quietly with the Count next time.”
“Next time?”
Just what in the world was going through His Majesty’s head?
Sera shook her head. It mustn’t be what she’s thinking.
“Your Majesty… With all due respect, this is a personal matter. It’s my private life. Even if a similar situation happens in the future, it’s fine. I will handle it myself.”
