Chapter 217

“Lady Sera, thank you for coming.”
In front of the brightly lit opera house, Richard smiled broadly while offering his hand to Sera, who was about to alight the carriage.
As he was wearing a neat suit with a cravat, along with having his hair combed carefully back, just one look at Richard made it apparent just how much he cared about their date today.
“Thank you as well for inviting me to the opera today, Count.”
“Did you have a hard time getting here?”
“You sent me a carriage for me to ride though, so I didn’t have a hard time.”
When Sera smiled, Richard rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
And giving her a smile as well, albeit slightly shy, he waited until Sera got out of the carriage completely, then he held out a gift he had prepared for her.
It was a bouquet of pink roses in full bloom.
“Please accept this, Lady Sera.”
Considering how huge the bouquet was, rather than just holding them with her hands, she would need to hug it with her arms. Receiving such flowers, Sera smiled but was a little taken aback.
It was a custom in the Adelio Empire for the person who asked the other out on a date to prepare a bouquet of flowers.
“But Count… We’re definitely here as friends though…”
“There’s no law that states friends aren’t allowed to give each other flowers, right?”
Richard replied casually, still smiling.
And at this, Sera smirked. Her mood was lifted from seeing how casual he was.
“Isn’t this a foul?”
“If I can win Milady’s heart through the few tricks I have up my sleeves, then I’m willing to tell you what trick I have next in store for you. Oh, and Lady Sera.”
Richard’s eyes widened slightly as though he had only remembered something important just now.
“I nearly forgot to tell you. You’re really pretty today.”
“Ohh… Thank you. You look quite dashing as well, Count.”
The compliment was embarrassing to hear, but Sera smiled and said the same thing to him.
After that, Richard and Sera followed the usher into the opera house.
Their seats were on the second floor, on a protruding balcony structure. Compared to the other seats, it was clear that these were special seats.
“Since you said you like the opera, Lady Sera, I also prepared this small gift for you. Please think of me every time you use it from now on.”
Richard held out a pair of gold-framed opera glasses to Sera.
Seeing how Richard had prepared so thoroughly for today, Sera felt a bit guilty because she didn’t prepare anything in comparison.
She was sent a carriage, given an opera ticket, a bouquet of flowers, and now these opera glasses. She received a lot already.
“Thank you, Count. If I knew this would happen, I should have prepared a small gift for you as well.”
But Richard shook his head enthusiastically. Leaning forward, Richard brought his lips near Sera’s ear and whispered.
“It’s alright. Let’s do that on our next date.”
“Next date?”
“Since you would like to prepare a small gift for me, you can give it to me on our next date.”
How brazen and sly. As Richard moved away from her ear, Sera stared at him.
His complexion didn’t change even a little bit.
Sera sighed inwardly a little, somewhat thinking that Richard might be worse than Prince Aushuvel.
“We still have time before the show starts. Everyone must have come early today.”
Sera murmured as she looked around, trying to see the people gathered at the audience seats downstairs.
Splendidly dressed, the audience below were seated in twos or threes, and their distant chatters could be heard from here as well.
Richard also bowed slightly, nodding as he looked down.
“It’s only natural. Maybe it’s because they’ll be here, right?”
“’They’? Who do you mean?”
“Oh… Lady Sera, you served as a tutor at the Imperial Palace until recently, so you know them well. Their Highnesses the Imperial Prince and Princess, and His Majesty the Emperor are here, too.”
“Their Highnesses and His Majesty?”
“Yes. I heard that they’re coming to watch today’s opera as well. Come to think of it, it’s been a while since His Majesty has attended any theater or opera acts.”
Thud.
Sera was in the middle of bringing the opera glasses to her eyes, but they instead dropped as if she had lost all energy.
Surprised, Richard asked Sera if she was feeling sick. She looked unwell all of a sudden.
“Lady Sera, are you alright?”
“I’m fine, Count. I just suddenly lost my grip on one hand. It’s nothing.”
With a big smile, Sera bent down to pick up the opera glasses that had fallen to the floor.
‘Why am I so surprised? It’s entirely possible for our paths to cross once or twice. He’s the Emperor.’
He didn’t come here to see her. She didn’t have to worry about running into him.
Those were the thoughts that were running through her mind, but she couldn’t stop her heart from pounding loudly.
‘I don’t know about Their Highnesses Rosé and Ferre, but His Majesty certainly won’t want to cross paths with me, considering the circumstances. Maybe he’ll even avoid me. He’s a very considerate person, so I know he won’t want to make things uncomfortable. I don’t have anything to worry about.’
However, Sera took some time to get back up.
As she recalled that which she had been avoiding to think about for the entire month, it had become difficult for her to put a smile back on her face.

“Heli Oppa! This place is really high!”
“Heli Hyung, what if I wanna go to the bathroom in the middle of the show?”
Rosé and Ferre chatted curiously. They were now sitting on three cushions on top of their seats, as they might not be able to see the stage without the cushions.
“Rosé, it’s dangerous. Don’t stand up or lean forward too much. Ferre, feel free to tell me if you want to go to the bathroom. Jean will go with you.”
“Then, Oppa. What if we get scared when the big snake comes out?”
“Yeah, yeah. I don’t like scary things, Hyung.”
“I’ll cover your eyes.”
Helios whispered affectionately to his younger siblings, who were looking at him with his eyes wide open.
Even so, there was a certain impatience to him that couldn’t be completely hidden. His hand once again reached up and touched his cravat.
It was the cravat that he had already touched consciously so many times in the carriage.
‘Really, why did I come all the way here…’
It was all because he was blinded by jealousy, and he could only blame himself for even getting his younger siblings involved. He let out a heavy sigh.
At the same time, his eyes quickly looked at the other special balcony seats there, on the other side.
Dumbfounded by his own actions, Helios chuckled under his breath and shook his head.
Love.
After he admitted his feelings for Sera, he realized one thing.
He thought before that he was a generous person, but in the end, he was actually quite a jealous man.
That’s why he’s still feeling so displeased.
Sera was at the opposite side of the opera, at the upper balcony seats.
Sitting right next to Count Peters.
She was as pretty and radiant as ever, smiling brightly as she was wearing a white dress. He could see her clearly even when there’s a significant distance between them.
‘What a relief. She’s smiling.’
His heart ached as he recalled how he had made her cry back then. As she kept her head bowed, tears continued to trickle down to the ground.
And his heart plummeted further as he thought about how that was practically the last moment he had with her alone.
He thought back to the past several times, wondering what he could have said to her to have comforted her more. However, he couldn’t come up with any answers.
No matter what he could have said, it was still him rejecting her.
