Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 53.1
Chapter 53.1
* * *
Gerald remained in the drawing room to continue discussing magic lessons with Brioche. A tense silence lingered as the three children walked down the hallway, their faces marked with worry.
“Ha! We’re going together…”
It was Robert who finally broke the silence. He was furious that Michael had tried to go to the capital with Izeline and Gerar, leaving him behind. In fact, he was more than just furious; he was deeply enraged.
He pressed his tongue slowly against the inside of his cheek as he thought about it.
“Why would you do that?”
Michael was also full of resentment.
“Izeline doesn’t belong in this place.”
His teal eyes were filled with the expectation of Izeline’s future, shining brightly in a larger world. At the same time, he lamented the reality of her being trapped in this place.
“If you’re going, go alone.”
Robert glared at him, on guard.
As the two boys stopped walking abruptly, Izeline, who had also stopped walking, let out a shallow sigh.
“Both of you, stop it.”
The pressure of studying magic, which required a lot of effort, seemed to be weighing heavily on her shoulders already. She didn’t want to spend her whole life studying in this life.
Sob.
It felt like invisible tears were blurring her vision. However, whether she was in sadness or not, the two boys had no intention of listening to her.
“Why should I go alone?”
“Because you’re going to take Izeline away.”
“Don’t get the wrong idea. Izeline isn’t your property.”
“She’s my friend. She promised to stay here with me.”
“Obviously, she stayed here out of pity.”
“What? Pity? Are you done talking?”
“Looks like I hit a nerve, judging by how angry you’re getting.”
“You little punk!”
Robert lunged at Michael. Izeline screamed as she watched the two of them roll around on the floor in an instant.
“Stop it, both of you!”
But it was no use.
They had expressions on their faces that showed they wouldn’t give in to each other, even if it killed them.
“You coward. You can come to the capital with us too.”
“Shut up! What do you know?!”
Mana flared from Robert’s hand as he spat out the words. Then, Michael also released the mana that he rarely used.
“Stop it right now!”
Izeline’s face turned pale.
This wasn’t something she could stop. There was no way she could stop the war between the geniuses when she couldn’t even handle mana properly.
“Ugh!”
“Ack!”
At that moment, the two boys’ bodies were lifted into the air and thrown in opposite directions like ragdolls.
Thud, thud.
Izeline looked up in the direction of the sound with a dazed expression.
“Good decision.”
The white-haired mage grinned wickedly as he crossed the hall.
“If you become my disciple, you’ll be able to do this much easily.”
“Are you sure I really have the talent to be a mage?”
Izeline asked anxiously, repeating the question for what felt like the hundredth time. Gerald, already irritated by her persistence, eventually answered in a bored tone.
“I told you, didn’t I?”
Michael and Robert exchanged glances as they watched this.
The two stood far apart, backs turned to one another, as though they had drifted in opposite directions. Hearing the same conversation repeat itself was wearing on their patience.
“What if I don’t?”
“There’s no way that’s possible.”
“But just because I recognized that book, it doesn’t mean I’m a mage, right? Just like not everyone with mana is a mage.”
“Oh, come on. That’s not just any ordinary book.”
Gerald clicked his tongue as if he had never seen such a skeptical person.
But Izeline couldn’t help it.
Wasn’t that the truth?
She hadn’t chosen ‘The Prophecy of Another World’ because of any mysterious energy, but because she simply recognized it from somewhere. As she examined it closely, the cover looked exactly like the original design she remembered.
However, Gerald, who didn’t know the circumstances, was full of confidence.
“If you really can’t believe it, there’s nothing I can do.”
As he flicked his finger, the two books in question appeared in the air. He then beckoned to Michael and Robert, who were far apart, and the two of them approached as if they couldn’t help themselves, even though they were curious.
“Since you’re both considered geniuses, you should feel something, right? You can use mana so freely, unlike her.”
Gerald looked straight at Izeline and handed each of the boys a book.
Robert raised an eyebrow and quickly flipped through the pages from beginning to end. Michael also tilted his head and looked at the cover from front to back.
Still, they both looked puzzled.
“Well, look. That’s the usual reaction.”
At Gerald’s words, Robert asked blankly.
