Despite Being an Extra, I'm the Villain's Childhood Friend - Chapter 40.1
Chapter 40.1
Robert’s ears perked up at this. Information often meant money, and he didn’t want to miss any opportunity to earn some.
Gerald flipped the paper over and asked.
“I’ve heard rumors about all four of them.”
“I’ve met all four of them.”
“I thought the leader of the Windroad Knights stayed in his castle in the north.”
“He attended the Crown Prince’s birthday banquet.”
“Oh?”
Gerald let out a thoughtful hum, his interest piqued. Izeline couldn’t wait to hear what Michael had to say. What could he have written about all four knights that had him so interested?
Izeline craned her neck like a turtle, and Gerald chuckled.
“Curious?”
“Very.”
“Here.”
To her surprise, he handed her the paper. Izeline blinked and quickly took it, her curiosity getting the better of her.
Robert, sitting beside her, also craned his neck to read.
“Oh…”
Izeline let out an ambiguous sound, surprised by the unexpected content.
“Michael. How did you…”
“It’s what I would do in his position.”
Was he impressed by the unique answers? Robert, feeling competitive, retorted with a frown.
That wasn’t the point.
‘No one in their right mind would give this a passing grade.’
Michael’s answers, which could be valuable information to some and useless gossip to others, were nothing more than a joke to them.
Izeline asked for confirmation.
“You’re saying the leader of the Flame Knights is meticulous and petty?”
“He’s divorced, and he demanded that his ex-wife return all the gifts he had given her.”
“Oh…”
He was certainly petty.
How did he know all this, anyway? When she asked with her expression, Michael smiled innocently and replied.
“I overheard my parents talking.”
Apparently, his ex-wife was close to his mother.
Izeline glanced over Michael’s notes again. They were interesting, but they were all personal and private.
“You’re saying the leader of the Windroad Knights who’s celibate…”
This time, the voice came from Gerald. He was such a secretive figure that no one knew if he was romantically involved with anyone.
“When I went to the castle in the north, I overheard my father say that he was helpless against an unknown woman.”
“….”
At this point, Izeline wanted to applaud Michael’s hearing.
“But then the woman was killed by a monster in an accident, and he’s been devastated ever since.”
“Was that what caused the Great Battle a few years ago…”
“It seems likely.”
Michael added subtly.
“He didn’t pay any attention to anyone at the birthday banquet. He just gave off this murderous aura.”
“Is he that strong?”
Robert, who had been listening silently until now, suddenly asked. There had never been an official duel, but it was widely believed that the leader of the Windroad Knights was the strongest of the four knights who protected the empire.
This was because he had been successfully fighting monsters in the harsh northern lands. If he was stronger than that, wouldn’t he be the strongest person in the world?
With that thought in mind, Robert looked at Michael with a tense expression.
“Of course, he is…”
Just as the answer was about to come out.
Crash!
Gerald slammed the last paper down hard. It was Robert’s answer sheet.
“It seems I have an unusual disciple.”
His purple eyes gleamed sharply as he looked at Robert. Robert’s expression hardened as he met his gaze head-on.
A strange tension filled the air.
