Becoming the Villain’s Family - Chapter 350
Chapter 350
“I need an explanation. Why are the villagers only kind to the young lady? Who exactly is ‘he’, and what do they mean by becoming a complete god and being the key to resurrection…?”
Elaina immediately revealed the answer to his questions.
“Bluffing.”
“…!”
What does that mean? Ugo wanted to ask but hesitated, fearing he might be treated like a child again.
Elaina picked up on his hesitation and continued to explain.
“It’s a gambling term. In simple terms, I tricked them into believing I’m the daughter of the god they worship.”
Why does a girl his age know gambling terminology? He couldn’t help but look stunned at her next words.
“You… you tricked them?”
Having been thrust into an unfamiliar world after getting wrapped in light, Ugo had experienced a nightmare worthy of horror fiction.
A peaceful rural village in the middle of the woods, where the villagers welcomed strangers with a festival.
But rather than being friendly, there was something eerie about the villagers. The spine-chilling ritual he witnessed at night, and the failed escape that ended in futility after he was caught.
After eating the food they offered, he woke up bound in an underground prison.
That summarized the last five days he had endured.
He glanced nervously toward the door and whispered after lowering his voice.
“Those people aren’t sane. They’re crazy.”
Elaina watched Ugo, who was clearly tense, and nodded thoughtfully.
“Yes, I know. It’s no joke. They’re on a whole different level compared to the usual villains.”
Why was she agreeing!
Ugo felt both incredulous and, at his young age, he felt a headache from frustration.
“Did someone who knows this calmly decide to trick them? If they find out…!”
“It’s fine, it’s fine.”
Elaina patted Ugo’s shoulder reassuringly.
What’s fine about it?
Ugo’s face looked like it was about to explode, but she continued without regard for his feelings.
“Aren’t you hungry? You should eat something.”
“I know what they put in there.”
He looked down at the plate with a furrowed brow, as if he wanted to throw it away immediately.
“They won’t mess around with food until you’re offered as a sacrifice. I’ve already emphasized that I need you in peak condition. Plus, if they try to pull something, I might notice before you do.”
“I understand the situation. I get it, but…”
Ugo tugged at his hair in frustration, letting out a deep sigh.
“How can you be so sure everything will be okay?”
Where does this unfounded confidence and nonchalance come from?
He couldn’t help but wonder, especially since he hadn’t escaped the fear of this insane cult village yet.
Above all, Elaina’s every action filled him with questions.
“How did you even manage to bluff in the first place? Is that even possible? No matter how exceptional you are, it’s absurd to trick several adults you’ve never met before. And they’re not even normal adults.”
He has a point.
‘The kid should just nod along and say, ‘Oh, that’s just how it is.’’
Elaina narrowed her eyes, contemplating how to convince this smart, sensitive, and overly worried child.
But no matter how much she thought, only one conclusion came to mind.
She couldn’t find a way to escape this zealot village while hiding her abilities, let alone from the world thousands of years ago.
‘I guess there’s no other choice.’
She raised her hand, brushed Ugo’s bangs aside, and pressed her palm to his forehead.
Then, as he flinched at the sudden contact, she let all her memories spill out to him.
“Gah!”
Ugo couldn’t help but be drenched in the flood of someone else’s memories, crashing over him like an unexpected downpour.
He learned who the man trapped in the temple was and what his situation entailed.
He discovered the schemes of the village zealots and how Elaina planned to exploit that situation.
And he learned how she managed to see through their blind faith and trick them.
“I can do this.”
“…?”
“Uh… were you surprised?”
Elaina was momentarily flustered as she observed Ugo gasping for breath.
Of course, she expected him to be surprised, but perhaps because it was a common ability among the Valentines, she hadn’t anticipated he would be this shocked.
‘I was just trying to explain quickly.’
Was her approach too intense?
Feeling a bit anxious, Elaina gently patted Ugo’s back and kept an eye on his expression.
This was the first time she had revealed her abilities to someone outside of the Valentine family.
“I’m, I’m fine… but you’re way too close…”
He mumbled, his face now completely flushed, resembling a ripe tomato as time went on.
‘So it really is uncomfortable for him.’
Elaina tried to act nonchalant and relaxed, but she couldn’t help but to clench the hem of her clothes while observing his reactions.
They weren’t exactly friends, and there was no need to impress him, but it was still the first time.
Being looked down upon by the first person she revealed her abilities to would undoubtedly sting.
“You can read thoughts…”
Ugo fidgeted for a while before sighing.
Elaina flinched inside, but outwardly maintained a casual tone.
“Well, yes. Just looking into someone’s eyes, I can get a general idea.”
Ugo hurriedly squeezed his eyes shut after he heard it.
“Did, did you just read my thoughts?”
His densely fringed eyelashes fluttered loudly like his voice.
Was it really something to be that desperate about?
‘Does he think I’m some kind of pervert who sneaks a peek into other people’s minds whenever I get a chance?’
Elaina felt annoyed, but on the other hand, she knew it was a natural question.
‘Yes, I’d be creeped out too if I thought someone could read my thoughts.’
She answered very frankly and straightforwardly to reassure him.
