Becoming the Villain’s Family - Chapter 296
Chapter 296
The curtains were tightly drawn, plunging the room into darkness as if it were midnight.
It seemed to fuel Grand Duke Valentine’s suspicions further. He lazily scanned Aria from top to bottom.
“Why should I believe you?”
“Believe it or not, you could easily subdue me if I tried anything foolish.”
“….”
“And then we can talk, it’s not too late for that.”
Grand Duke Valentine’s gaze lingered on Aria for a moment longer, twisting into a smirk before he moved away. He got out of bed to fling the curtains open.
His action was rough and was without any expectation.
“….”
Yet, the Grand Duke’s eyes, which Aria suspected would usually gleam with amusement like the threat of a sword, wavered helplessly.
The moment he opened the curtains, bright light flooded the room. It was so intense that it momentarily blinded them.
“This is…”
Grand Duke Valentine shielded his eyes reflexively then very slowly lowered his hand.
‘The world.’
Beneath the dazzling sun, they were engulfed in countless shimmering particles of light. The world he had destroyed was restored to its former state.
A time of peace which could never be undone was brought back to life.
No, even more splendidly than before.
Grand Duke Valentine’s gaze followed the floating golden dust in the air.
‘This shouldn’t be.’
The overly peaceful and serene world felt like hell to him. The original land had long since turned hellish, making this restored world seem like a hallucination.
‘I could go even madder here…’
Unspeakable emotions crashed over him mercilessly.
It was when the Grand Duke was cautiously feeling the window with his hand.
Suddenly, he sensed a presence and sharply turned his head, his pitch-black eyes flickering.
Knock-knock—
The sound of knocking and a servant’s timid morning greeting.
“Excuse me, may I bring in breakfast?”
The hesitation in their voice suggested they might be interrupting the Grand Duke and his wife’s happy time.
Aria glanced at Grand Duke Valentine, who seemed somewhat calmer.
Though it was more accurate to say his agitation had momentarily subsided due to a greater confusion.
She said as she haphazardly picked up the clothes lying on the floor and put them on.
“Shall we have breakfast first?”
Eating was an ordeal for Aria, feeling poked by his scrutinizing gaze with every bite.
“Aren’t you eating?”
“Siren, we’re a couple?”
His response was completely unrelated. Sighing, she replied.
“We even have a child.”
“…”
“Who’s very cute, takes after her father.”
Aria was relieved Elaina wasn’t present by Lloyd’s side. She feared what Grand Duke Valentine, who wore Lloyd’s skin, might do to her.
After all, he had strangled Aria out of his unstable mind. Elaina too would be confused by her father’s sudden change.
“A….child?”
“Yes.”
“My child. Ha, with you, siren?”
Grand Duke Valentine who started to listen grew skeptical with each word.
“Would I do such a thing?”
He seemed to view this situation as some twisted illusion or trap. Rather than believing it, he seemed to want to join in the play.
‘Well, if it were before my return, maybe it’d make sense…’
Aria knew how deeply the world had fallen.
She hadn’t experienced its near destruction as she was sent back before. Despite merely getting a taste of that doom, she had enough insight.
Especially seeing Grand Duke Valentine’s current reaction.
‘But there are differences between then and now…’
Lloyd and Aria were married. Sabina and Vincent were alive. The Valentine incident hadn’t occurred. Grand Duke Valentine was well, neither rampaging nor mad. The princess had become the Emperor.
Above all, God’s malice and God’s goodwill had safely come together. Eliminating the need for Valentine to harbor the malice to protect the world.
Who would believe such a tale? Even Aria from before her regression wouldn’t have.
Grand Duke Valentine’s skepticism only deepened.
“Showing and telling me all these things, you must think I’d dream of such a future.”
Aria was still treated as a devil who is tempting the Grand Duke with sweet words.
He whispered, presenting himself like the devil incarnate with his red lips curling.
“Sorry, but you’re entirely wrong. What I want is the destruction of this world, eternal silence, and blessed rest.”
“This is a different dimension. This is not an illusion, but an actual, existing world.”
“I see, so that’s the story.”
“….”
Aria sighed deeply and swept her face. She was bothered by it.
If he chose not to believe, perhaps it was best to leave him like that? If he didn’t go mad, there’s no need to persuade him…
“I’m starting to get bored here. Before I dispel this illusion you’ve spun, say something else.”
No, he’s going mad. He hinted that he was ready to disrupt not just the illusion but possibly the world itself.
Aria sensed that she needed to convince this unpredictable man that they were indeed in an alternate dimension.
She lost her appetite and set aside her cutlery.
“Fine. Even if I was a devil, I couldn’t replicate a Siren’s song, right? Do we agree on that?”
Aria remembered the fake Siren incident. She noted the distinct difference in the power of a Siren’s song that was imbued with magic, compared to singing with the devil’s power.
“Ha… You think I can’t distinguish a Siren’s song?”
