Becoming the Villain’s Family - Chapter 283
Chapter 283
“Is that a scratch from your nails?”
Aria asked as she looked at the wound.
Luca’s eyes widened in feigned surprise, making his already innocent-looking eyes rounder.
“What do you mean? It was a bad sword wound that healed quickly due to my fast recovery.”
Aria narrowed her eyes, but Luca looked up at the sky, appearing utterly unashamed.
“To think you’d hurt yourself just to gain Elaina’s attention.”
“I didn’t hurt myself, but since it did gain Elaina’s attention, let’s consider it a wound of honor.”
He shamelessly accepted with his eyes curling into a flower-like smile.
“Kyaa!”
Elaina laughed along, following Luca’s smile.
Aria shook her head, resigned to his antics. She looked at the two with mixed feelings.
‘I was worried they might not get along, but…’
They turned out to be siblings who adored each other more than she could have hoped.
Aria couldn’t ask for more.
‘However…’
Adopting Luca had been planned from the start.
From the moment Aria first saw Luca emerge from his egg, she considered him her son.
Lloyd was initially reluctant but had eventually consented, seeing how devoted Luca was to Elaina.
Moreover, though unintentional, the adoption brought secondary benefits.
Luca was a ‘dragon,’ a legendary divine creature, and to be chosen by such a being proved that God was by their side.
The nobles couldn’t oppose Luca’s adoption, nor could they dare whisper malevolent words.
Thanks to this, the Valentine who had God’s power and symbol gained the prestige rivaling that of Garcia.
And not just that…
“I will completely settle the matter with Garcia.”
Since Elaina’s birth, Luca suddenly stopped pretending to be a child.
He abandoned his childish speech and immature thoughts and actions.
His manner of speaking became much more polite.
“…Luca?”
Aria was shocked to see Luca, who had grown so much overnight.
She knew he was more mature than he appeared, but she didn’t expect such a sudden growth, both mentally and physically.
He was a child and suddenly a boy, almost a young man.
“Were you always that tall?”
“Not really, but my body suddenly became like this after that day.”
“That day?”
“The moment I received my mission.”
“Mission? What mission?”
“The mission to stay by Elaina’s side to protect her as my own, until she becomes an adult.”
Dragons were originally created to protect God.
Seemingly having made up his mind, Luca glanced down at his body and murmured nonchalantly.
“Probably, my body transformed because being in a child’s form wouldn’t be very dignified or helpful as a guardian.”
Luca had changed, solely for his mission.
He had spent fifteen hundred years in his mother’s womb. His body had inherited the memories of his mother who had lived for thousands of years.
Although he hadn’t experienced the world directly, his mental age was far beyond his physical one. It wouldn’t be strange if he had transcended all worldly concerns.
“The remnants of Garcia are still scattered around the world. They might even be hiding within the empire. So, I will eliminate them.”
He said this to completely eradicate any threats that might one day endanger Elaina.
“Do you really need to intervene directly? They are just headless tails moving around. They will be wiped out eventually.”
“Who can guarantee that a tail won’t become a head? Besides, I am the only one who can detect even God’s remnants, so I must step out myself.”
You’re just two years old?
Aria was certain she had adopted a baby. Yet, how in just one year did he grow to the size of an adult, burdened with the tremendous mission of stepping onto the battlefield to protect someone?
‘Even if his face still looks youthful.’
But she soon had to accept that Luca was different from humans.
‘It seems for dragons, protecting God is an absolute mission.’
An unavoidable fate, like a stigma.
Aria couldn’t help but feel sorry about this fact.
“There, all done.”
Luca’s forearm was completely healed by Aria’s song of healing.
Elaina clapped her hands happily.
“Luca.”
Aria looked alternately at the cheerfully smiling siblings and started.
“You said you’d stay in Valentine until Elaina becomes an adult, and then you’d return to God’s side.”
“Yes.”
“Do you still have no change of mind about that?”
Luca fluttered his long eyelashes for a moment, then replied with a picturesque smile.
“Yes.”
Elaina, who was too young to understand their conversation, simply tilted her head.
At the same time, Aria’s expression turned sad.
“A, Aria?”
Luca, who usually smoothly handled any conversation, suddenly looked flustered and stammered.
“I know you’re not human.”
But she had wanted to raise him no differently from a human.
Together with Elaina.
To take care of them with affection until both children become adults, to indulge in their cute whims.
Perhaps to scold them firmly sometimes, but ultimately to help them grow up rightly.
Was that perhaps greed? As a mother, she felt she hadn’t shown enough affection, yet the baby had taken it upon himself to become a guardian.
