When was the last time she had seen her father? Since she got married, Leilia hasn’t visited her parents’ house. Although she sometimes greeted him when she met him at the imperial palace, they didn’t even exchange regular letters.
She lived as if she had always been a stranger from the beginning.
As she was riding in the carriage with Cassel, she didn’t know why there was so much silence. Perhaps because her thoughts were so complicated that words wouldn’t come out.
“Leilia, I’ll protect you.”
Leilia nodded her head as Cassel spoke.
“I need Cassel’s protection.”
She smiled broadly.
At home, there was no one to protect her. It was only Seychelle who comforted her. But now, she had someone to watch over her. Her husband had become a steadfast supporter.
‘…When we got married, I never dreamed of a future like this.’
Cassel quietly closed his eyes, waiting for her to break the silence. Without a word, she took his hand and leaned against him.
When the carriage stopped, Leilia took a deep breath, holding her husband’s hand as she stepped out. Although it had been a while since she last saw the mansion, it was still the same. It seemed that Eloisa’s distinctive atmosphere hadn’t disappeared. As she arrived, the butler hurriedly went inside the house. It seemed like he was trying to announce her arrival.
The wind gently blew. Despite visiting the mansion where she had lived for the past twenty-two years after a long time, it didn’t feel as welcoming.
After a while, the butler returned and bowed to Leilia.
“Welcome.”
“Where is my father?”
“He’s on his way.”
Accompanied by Cassel, her father came out personally to greet them.
The situation was amusing.
Cassel silently watched over everything by Leilia’s side. After a while, a blond man walked up. It was her father, still with his glamorous appearance.
“I greet Your Highness.”
Cowell bowed to Cassel. Since the Eloisa family had done nothing for him on the battlefield, it was only natural for him to treat Cassel with caution.
Leilia read her father’s mind and quickly stood beside Cassel.
“Have you heard from Alesha?”
“I have.”
“Is the transfer of authority prepared?”
Cowell nodded at her words.
She wanted to finish the transfer quickly and return. As she entered the mansion brought back old memories, making her chest feel tight.
Leilia entered her father’s office.
There were documents piled up, including those needed for the transfer of authority, along with a lawyer. She greeted the lawyer briefly and carefully examined the documents for the transfer of authority. The papers were thorough, even containing a memorandum stating she could no longer influence affairs in this building.
She silently signed them.
“From now on, this building belongs to Alesha. So please help her take care of it.”
Her father had never raised rent or done anything outlandish in the buildings he managed, though they were fairly well-maintained. It seemed like it would be good for Alesha to learn that.
“Is everything ready for the marriage with the Duke?”
Cowell nodded at her question.
“Yes.”
“Then, I’ll be going.”
There was no need for her to see her father. After finishing her words, she tried to leave.
“Count Eloisa, I’d like to have a word with you.”
But then Cassel stepped forward.
“Yes, yes?”
Cowell was taken aback.
“I haven’t finished talking yet.”
Seeing that he seemed to want to talk alone, Leilia quickly left the room.
What could he be wanting to talk to her father about? It seemed like a long conversation was taking place since he hadn’t come out for a while. As Leilia waited, she suddenly thought of her mother.
A few moments later, Cassel quietly opened the door and came out.
“Have you seen everything you needed to see?”
“Yes, I have.”
“May I ask what you were talking about?”
He nodded in response to her question.
“I told him not to interfere in Leilia’s affairs from now on.”
“Cassel.”
“It was a position that was needed at least once.”
After saying that, he took her hand and left the mansion.
It didn’t seem like he was merely telling him not to get involved, but even if it were revealed in the future that she was the leader of the Hyllan Merchants Association, her father’s influence wouldn’t matter anymore.
That was a relief.

The carriage headed towards the park.
Since Leilia wanted to enjoy the breeze, instead of returning directly to the mansion, they went to the park. When they arrived, she stepped out of the carriage and unfolded her parasol as if she intended to walk in the park.
Cassel stood beside her, and they walked together.
“Did you confirm the paternity test?”
He nodded at her question.
“I did it as a formality.”
“I did it too.”
His eyes widened at her words.
