Chapter 32.1
Going up upstairs, Leilia sat next to Cassel on the sofa in the small space Natale had prepared.
“Would you like some tea?”
It seemed like the story was going to be a little long.
“I’ll make some.”
Saying so, Cassel got up and made the tea before he listened to her story.
Leilia always spoke calmly. She kept her emotions out of it and just objectively communicated what happened, and there was no resentment or anything like that. She was composed.
Cassel was watching her.
There were no tears in Leilia’s eyes when she finished the story, while Cassel stood there with a stern expression.
At that moment, Lucis came in, holding some documents.
“I have to take care of some work.”
Cassel nodded at Leilia’s words.
Even though he didn’t like leaving her and Lucis alone, he needed to clear his head, so he left them and stepped out. As he stepped outside, he saw Natale enjoying his break time in the dining room.
“When did you arrive?”
As he asked with a smile, Natale’s friendly face bore a striking resemblance to Leilia’s.
“We arrived a little while ago.”
Saying so, Cassel sat beside Natale.
“I have doubts.”
“What makes you think that? You’re the hero of the empire.”
“I failed to protect my wife.”
As he uttered those words, disgust clouded Cassel’s face. He wondered why he hadn’t known about what his wife had experienced at teatime earlier. How much mistreatment must the wife of a dying prince endure?
“Please protect her from now on.”
Natale gave him realistic advice.
“You can’t change the past, can you?”
“But…”
“Leilia doesn’t resent Your Highness Cassel. Even though she was going through those things, she supported you.”
He smiled, reminiscing about that time.
She did so amidst the possibility of divorce when Your Highness returned. She didn’t ask for anything in return. She just did it while hoping that Your Highness wouldn’t die.”
His calm words echoed around him.
Natale chuckled softly as he watched Cassel struggle.
“At least Your Highness Cassel recognizes Leilia’s sacrifice and is trying to protect your wife now. If you show her that, it might ease her pain.”
He was right.
Cassel nodded and gazed at the room where Leilia and Lucis were working.

The next day arrived.
Leilia did her makeup and wore a blue dress adorned with blue bejeweled accessories. Looking in the mirror, she seemed formal enough.
As she stepped out of the dressing room, Cassel was already waiting outside.
“You’re so dazzling.”
He kissed the back of her hand.
“You look handsome too, Cassel.”
Cassel wore a white suit today, with the necklace she had picked out. His short silver hair caught the sun’s rays and seemed to glow at any moment. Leilia stared at him absentmindedly for a moment before quickly snapping out of it and taking his hand.
“Let’s go.”
Leilia strengthened her voice. She was a little embarrassed because it seemed like she was asking him to stay by her side.
“Let’s go together.”
As if he had also made a decision, he took her hand, and they headed towards the carriage. As the carriage headed towards the imperial palace, Leilia spoke almost absentmindedly.
“There’s a rumor that His Majesty has acquired ownership of two territories. Lucis compiled the rumors from the imperial palace and sent them to me this morning.”
Cassel nodded at Leilia’s words as she persisted.
“It seems like they might attack through the territories.”
“That’s fine.”
He responded calmly.
“It wasn’t what I wanted from the beginning.”
“Still, you fought for your life in battle only to be attacked over something that was praised for merit. His Majesty is going too far.”
Leilia uttered coldly.
It seemed like an attempt to minimize the risks of a power struggle as much as possible, but of course, Cassel’s stubbornness would also contribute to the frustration. It seemed that the Emperor couldn’t distinguish between personal emotions and public affairs.
“His Majesty always handles matters in a rational manner.”
But not this time.
Cassel agreed with Leilia’s words and whispered to her, “Would you mind if I were a duke with a shabby estate?”
She smiled at his earnest question.
“We can just make it a good territory ourselves.”
Leilia answered.
“What I need is Cassel’s heart.”
“Heart?”
“A heart that cares for his wife?”
Leilia’s face flushed, but she spoke honestly. It was embarrassing to speak so directly.
Seeing her like that, Cassel bit his lip.
“Temptation is forbidden.”
“It’s not temptation.”
“Really.”
The next moment, he let out a deep breath and pulled Leilia towards him before removing the cardigan he had on to cover her back and kissed her back. He often kissed her back like this whenever he wanted to hold her close.
Leilia’s ears felt hot as if she had realized his current state.
“This is really unbearable.”
He uttered and pulled her close from behind.
