After I Sent the Divorce Letter, My Husband Went Mad - Chapter 27
Chapter 14.1
With a heavy heart, Cassel plopped down on the sofa.
It was almost time for the appointment, and soon, he would meet his biological father.
However, the door suddenly opened and a man walked in, wearing a black suit to match the darkness, green hair, blue eyes, and a familiar face.
‘…Your Excellency?’
He stood up quickly and greeted the chancellor.
“My name is Chelias Ziren, Sir Cassel, Chancellor of the Roten Empire.”
As Chelias held out his hand, Cassel lowered his head without saying anything.
“I see. Are you my biological father?”
“No, he’s in the inner room.”
Saying so, he led Cassel further into the room. There was another door where Chelias had taken him. If he went through it, he would be reunited with his father.
Biological father.
Since he had lived with his mother and stepfather since childhood, he didn’t really have a parental figure though he didn’t know if his father could provide him the help he wanted now. Pressing his lips together, he turned the doorknob.
The door opened with a creaking sound.
Cassel walked inside with heavy steps and found a man sitting on the sofa pouring tea. His eyes widened at the sight of the man in front of him.
“I greet Your Majesty the Emperor!”
He quickly dropped to one knee in greeting.
“Get up.”
At those words, he pressed down on his pounding heart as he stood up.
“…Could it be that Your Majesty is my biological father?”
“Yes, you are my hidden son.”
As Leshulean invited him to take a seat, Cassel sat down and drank from the cup of tea the Emperor poured for him.
‘It would be dangerous to know who your father is.’
Cassel recalled her mother’s last words.
…His mother, who said it was better for him not to know. Rumor has it that the concubines and empresses were so powerful that they secretly killed the Emperor’s illegitimate children. Was that why his mother concealed his presence so thoroughly?
Perhaps, it was.
Setting down his teacup, Cassel stared at Leshulean. Since he resembled his mother, there was not much resemblance to him.
“Are you willing to go to war?”
At his words, Cassel was troubled.
In the first place, he thought he was going to war as a simple commoner, but if he were the Emperor’s illegitimate son, he would have to participate in the war as a prince. He learned more about the fate of the princes who participated in the war at the academy. They would have to stand at the vanguard in every battle. They had to fight for the morale of their soldiers without a day off, and in the end, most of them died heroically.
Of course, sometimes there were princes who survived, but in many cases, they were often crippled.
“Has Your Majesty failed to send the official prince to the battlefield?”
At Cassel’s question, Leshulean shrugged.
“I can’t help it because all their maternal relatives are outraged. If I knew this would happen like this, I would’ve sought a child of a lowly family. I’m glad you were there.”
He didn’t say anything formal to Cassel either. At the start, he had already stopped looking for his son when he came of age, so he couldn’t have come and found him because he had missed his bloodline.
“Am I cold-hearted?”
Leshulean narrowed his eyes as he asked that. Picking up his teacup, he sipped his tea whilst waiting for Cassel’s answer.
“You’re not a real father to me. To me, you are the Emperor.”
It also meant that he had no expectations of him as a father.
In the meanwhile, Leshulean smirked at his words.
“That’s right. I’ll give you orders to go to war, and you will follow them though I wouldn’t just let you go. I’ll give you anything you want, as long as it’s something I can give you.”
“Anything?”
Cassel asked with all his heart.
“Are you asking for the position of the crown prince?”
“I don’t want that. What I want is a person.”
The corner of Leshulean’s eye twitched upward. He stared at his son as if he hadn’t expected his answer.
“A person.”
“I want one person.”
She might hate him for this. Nonetheless… if only he could get her like this, then he would never stop doing this!
“Oh, who’s that?”
“Leilia Eloisa, I want her. Give her to me as a wife.”
“If it’s Leilia Eloisa, do you mean the eldest of the Eloisa family?”
“It seems like Your Majesty knows.”
“I’ve heard the second one was beautiful?”
“I’m not interested in the second.”
Cassel’s words brought a smile to his lips.
“Giving her to me as a wife is easy. Your Majesty can make me a prince and have her marry me. Count Eloisa is a great man who will give his daughter the right reward.”
Hearing his words, Leshulean leaned back in his chair and exhaled.
“Is that enough?”
“Yes.”
“How about your mother becoming an official concubine?”
“That’s not necessary.”
His mother also had a lover who stood by her side at the end of her life, but she just didn’t live long enough to marry him.
“A touching reunion is something only between us.”
Cassel calmly drew the line.
