Chapter 54.2

“Now, as for why we’re all here…”

Lisseltz paused for a moment.

“Because I’ve brought some valuable information.”

After saying that, Lisseltz took another sip of his tea, drinking it as effortlessly as water. The rich taste filled his mouth.

It wasn’t time yet.

He needed to start preparing for the future, gradually.

“If word of this spreads, we’re as good as dead. No one can find out.”

Without this method, it would be difficult to kill Cassel.

Lisseltz thought to himself.

Leilia strolled leisurely down the corridor. Cassel had left early for his morning training, giving her a rare chance to enjoy breakfast alone.

Seychelle followed a few steps behind her.

The moment she stepped into the dining hall, the butler bowed slightly as if expecting her arrival.

“Madam, are you awake?”

The new butler, Lennox, was said to have been a longtime friend of Lucis’s. He was a middle-aged man with neatly trimmed black hair.

“Good morning. Do you have something to report?”

“The wine cellar is now completely stocked.”

“I’ll check on it after I finish breakfast.”

“Understood.”

Lennox nodded and stepped back, giving Leilia space to enjoy her meal.

‘Hmm.’

The previous butler had shown her no respect. In fact, none of the household staff had ever truly regarded her as Cassel’s wife. When Cassel found out, he was outraged. He dismissed them all and, with Lucis’s assistance, carefully selected new employees.

Things were different now.

“This is nice.”

As she sipped her soup, Leilia closed her eyes for a moment, still finding it hard to get used to this peaceful life. Monday mornings had always meant breakfast with her parents. With that gone, she now had to endure meals under the cold gazes of the servants.

But now—

“Madam, is there anything else you’d like?”

Seychelle asked with a warm smile.

“Just bring me one more piece of bread.”

“Right away.”

With those words, Seychelle walked away slowly. Leilia watched her for a moment before lowering her head.

‘Cassel…’

〈 Leilia deserves respect not because you’re the head of the Hyllan Merchants Guild, but simply for who you are. 〉

As she remembered what he had said that morning, she drifted into thought.

Cassel had suggested getting new dresses and clothes tailored, and she had agreed. As the head of the Hyllan Merchants Guild, she already had plenty of dresses and accessories, but they were all for formal occasions. She didn’t have much elegant clothing for daily wear, and he wanted to buy those for her.

“Buy what you need.”

What should she do now?

As Leilia pondered what was to come, she suddenly smiled as if something had come to mind. Once she had finished her soup and bread, she asked Seychelle for a cup of tea and settled into her seat.

To my beloved Alesha.

“There’s someone I want you to meet.”

If it were this person, just having them nearby would be beneficial to Cassel. And since he was going to be Alesha’s husband, meeting him wouldn’t raise any suspicion. Alesha had hinted in her letter that her fiancé was eager to meet Cassel. With their wedding set for next spring, he wanted to meet him before then.

“I can’t believe Alesha is getting married.”

Leilia gazed at the letter with a soft smile.

After discreetly investigating, she learned that their father had gifted Alesha a building. With full ownership transferred to her, Alesha now controlled the rental income as well.

“That’s how it should be.”

At least to Alesha, he had been a good father.

At this point, calling him her ‘father’ felt meaningless. She had already cut ties with her family, but she didn’t feel even a hint of resentment. If anything, she was thankful to Cassel for taking care of everything.

“I don’t even hate him anymore.”

Even so, she would never become the kind of parent her father had been.

Leilia lowered her gaze to her stomach.

Someday, she would carry Cassel’s child, and she wanted to raise them with love.

Cassel wordlessly swung his sword, and for a moment, it felt as though the blade was grinning with delight.

“What’s so special about a sword made by dwarves?”

Zen, brimming with curiosity, asked.

“It’s nothing special, just a regular sword.”

“Still, there must be something unique about it!”

Calia joined in, eagerly asking as well. The two of them always seemed to be on the same wavelength in moments like this.

Cassel sighed and took a step back from them.

He had told his subordinates to try wielding the sword, but the temperamental blade refused to let them hold it. When Cassel held it, it remained still and obedient, but the moment anyone else reached for it, the blade instinctively recoiled, refusing to be touched.

That was the trouble with swords that had a will of their own.
